Role Summary

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) & Airfield Operations Program Manager leads Alaska Airlines’ mid to long term planning with Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAAs) Air Traffic organization and with Airport Operators for Alaska Airlines (AS).  This individual contributor establishes and maintains strong working relationships at the FAA Air Traffic facility level as well as headquarters and leads bi-monthly forums with air traffic representatives at key airports to address airspace safety and efficiency issues. This role manages relationships with Airport Operators across our network related to airfield operations, safety, access, and efficiency. This role represents Alaska Airlines on industry committees, ensuring AS’ technical expertise influences the next-generation national airspace system.

Key Duties


Subject matter expert and thought leader in ATC and Airfield Operations in managing airfield construction impacts on Alaska Airlines’ operations.


Owns the development and manages all functions of the 10-7 manual ensuring accurately informed flight crews.


Design, advocate and implement cross-divisional needs and provide recommendations on airport master plans, national airspace changes, military airspace proposals, and noise studies.


Represents Alaska Airlines at Air Traffic and Airport Safety Risk Management Panels and provides subject matter expertise in Airport Master Planning studies.


Represents Alaska Air Group and Flight Operations at company /industry forums as an influential subject matter expert in air traffic and airfield operations.


Network and influence relationships with internal and external stakeholders throughout Alaska’s route network aligning stakeholder interests related to airfield construction, NAVAID impacts, winter operations, and safety.


Reviews the FAA daily flight procedure coordination website, assesses and strategically creates impact mitigations of new, changed, or canceled flight procedures in the National Airspace System.


Serves as backup to ATC Support Specialist for nav database changes, route updates, and chart management.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required


7 years of airport operations, air traffic, airline operational, or equivalent aviation experience.


Bachelor’s degree with a focus in related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.


Ability to evaluate Federal Aviation Regulations and Orders and understand the applicability to airline operational requirements.


Knowledge of the National Airspace System.


High school diploma or equivalent.


Minimum age of 18.


Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred


Private pilot certificate, dispatcher, or air traffic controller certification.


Ability to build effective working relationships with internal customers and federal, state, and local aviation officials.


Strong project management and problem-solving skills.


Effective communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).


Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.


Working knowledge of 711****, Air Traffic Controller’s Handbook, FAR Part 139, AC 150/5300 Airport Design, NAVAIDs, and flight procedures.


Spanish language fluency.

Salary Range

$130,900 - $202,900 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
