Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of Marabu Airlines Cabin Crew

As a relatively new name in European leisure aviation, Marabu Airlines has quickly established itself with a clear focus: efficient operations, a modern fleet, and a people-first culture. Launched to serve holiday destinations across Europe, the airline continues to grow at a pace, creating opportunities for aviation professionals at every stage of their careers.

At the centre of that growth sits its cabin crew.

More than simply service providers, they are the face of the brand, responsible for safety, atmosphere, and the overall passenger experience. In a close-knit, expanding airline like Marabu, their role carries real influence - shaping how the company is perceived from the moment passengers step on board.

We asked senior cabin crew member Debora Lima Dinis to share her journey in cabin crew life, from training to daily tasks, career goals, and advice for aspiring aviation professionals. Here’s what she had to say:

Q1. How long have you been working in the aviation industry?

I’ve been working in the aviation industry for around 8 years, since March 2018.

Q2. What inspired you to pursue a career in aviation?

It has been my dream since I was a little girl. I took my first flight at seven years old to Funchal, Madeira, and I remember being both excited and super anxious, especially because both of my parents are afraid of flying.

There was this flight attendant, with impeccable dark hair and red lipstick, who kept reassuring us throughout the flight. She had such an important impact on me that when we landed, I told my mum, “That’s what I want to do when I grow up.” And I never really let go of that idea.

Since then, I’ve worked towards it by learning several languages and developing strong customer skills. Today, I know this was my call, and I wouldn't change my career for anything in the world.

Q3. Could you walk me through your journey so far?

I started my career with a low-cost airline in Geneva, Switzerland. I then transferred to Lisbon, Portugal. During my time there, I expanded my experience by joining the sales team and also working as a union representative, which taught me a lot.

After that, I worked for the national airline in Luxembourg before joining Marabu. A few months after arriving, I was promoted to Senior Cabin Crew Member, and I’m now on track to become a Service Instructor.

Looking back, each step shaped me differently, and I’ve grown a lot, both professionally and personally, through these experiences and by living in different countries.

Q4. What does a typical day at work look like for you?

My day usually starts at home with a coffee and the preparation of the briefing. From there, no two days are the same!

At the airport, I conduct the crew briefing, we prepare the aircraft, and ensure everything is ready to welcome our passengers. During the flight, I ensure that safety procedures and service standards are followed while also attending to our passengers’ needs. I make sure to create a good atmosphere on board with my colleagues and have a nice time all together.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is to always be prepared for the unprepared! Once we land back at the base, I conduct a short debriefing for the team and finish the day back home with a warm shower.

Q5. What do you enjoy most about your job?

The human aspect of the job, obviously! I love interacting with colleagues, pilots and passengers. They put their trust in us as soon as they step through the door, and I want to make sure they have a positive experience on board. Also, meeting new people from different cultures and backgrounds.

Q6. What attracted you to Marabu?

I was drawn to Marabu because it's a small, modern airline that is growing. I saw a great opportunity for growth and to be part of the company's success. And I am so happy here, I feel like I made the right choice, and I am part of something amazing. It's the kind of company that makes you feel good about going to work, where you're not just another number, and that's really rare in aviation.

Q7. What kind of goals or plans do you have for your future in aviation?

My goal is to continue growing in the aviation industry. I would love to see more of the training department, and my ultimate goal is to join the recruitment team and help select and shape future cabin crew members.
