Safety Manager

Volantes Technical Recruitment is seeking an experienced Safety Manager on behalf of our client for a permanent role based in Dublin.

This position plays a critical role in leading the organisation’s Safety Management System (SMS) and ensuring continued compliance with IAA and EASA regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will work in close coordination with the Compliance Monitoring Manager and Security Manager, taking ownership of safety-related processes, initiatives, and oversight to ensure the highest standards of operational safety.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS) in line with IAA and EASA regulations

• Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of safety risks, ensuring appropriate risk management practices are embedded across the organisation

• Develop and maintain the company’s safety policies and procedures, aligning with industry standards and best practices

• Analyse safety data to identify trends and provide insight to support risk-based decision-making and proactive safety interventions

• Promote and maintain a strong, positive safety culture throughout the organisation

• Ensure the provision of appropriate safety training for personnel at all levels and facilitate effective internal safety communication

• Ensure full compliance with all applicable aviation safety regulations, including those issued by the IAA and EASA

• Lead the development and management of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and oversee the Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) programme

• Liaise with regulatory authorities and report regularly to senior leadership on safety performance, key risks, and areas for improvement

Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities:

• Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with company health and safety policies and legal obligations

• Promote awareness of individual responsibilities regarding workplace safety and environmental impact

• Support environmental sustainability initiatives and the continuous improvement of operational practices

Emergency Response:

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the company’s Emergency Response Procedures and be prepared to act as a representative in the event of a crisis

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

• A relevant engineering degree or a recognised aircraft maintenance technician qualification acceptable to the IAA

• In-depth knowledge of IAA and EASA regulations and demonstrable experience in compliance monitoring and auditing

• Proven experience in managing SMS, conducting safety investigations, and implementing risk management processes

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret safety data and apply findings to improve operational safety

• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and foster accountability across all levels of the organisation

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

• Recognised certifications in Safety Management Systems (e.g., IATA), Risk Management (e.g., ISO 31000), and auditing (e.g., ISO 9001, IOSA)

• Experience with IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) programmes, including preparation and corrective action implementation

• Training in human factors, aviation security, and safety investigation methodologies

• Prior experience liaising with IAA, EASA, or other regulatory bodies

• Expertise in managing ERP policies and Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) programmes, including analysis and integration of data into safety strategies

• Competency in safety performance metrics and familiarity with multi-aircraft or mixed-fleet operations

• Strong project management capabilities, particularly in leading cross-functional safety initiatives

• Flexibility to travel and work outside standard business hours, as required
