Job Summary:
 
Avionics Technicians generally work on the communication, navigation, and surveillance systems and the electrical generating components that power these systems. They install, inspect, test, and repair the avionics equipment and electronics, including communication and navigation radios, transponder and DME systems, weather radar equipment, autopilot systems and troubleshoot and diagnose these systems to LRU or component level.
 
Core Schedule:
  • Days: Monday thru Friday
  • Hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Some on call or evening/weekend hours may be required.
Compensation:
  • Starting hourly rate of $25.00 - $45.00 / hour depending on experience.
  • Overtime pay for all hours over 40 hours per week.
Day in the Life:
  • Installing and testing complex avionics equipment and electrical systems on aircraft.
  • Ensuring that all avionics equipment works properly before take-off and that it does not interfere with any other electronic device.
  • Repairing or replacing any defective avionics equipment before the aircraft’s next flight.
  • Interpreting blueprints and schematics to properly troubleshoot aircraft systems.
  • Performing intricate and highly reliable soldering on failed electrical components.
  • Providing accurate diagnoses of difficult avionics problems.
  • Organizing ground support and test equipment for ground tests.
  • Analyzing flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and study the operations of the electrical or avionics components.
  • Keep a constant watch for safety and ensure work performed adheres to the highest quality standards.
Ensure proper and adequate equipment is used, acceptable parts or components are installed, and approved hardware or supplies are used.
 
What will make you successful:
  • A&P License is required.
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience with diversified jet, turboprop, piston, modification, aircraft/flight maintenance or airframe sheet metal maintenance. Must have experience in MROs.
  • Operates all power tools and equipment necessary to accomplish job assignments.
  • Preferred experience in a customer service facility performing inspections and repair of aircraft.
  • Requires use of basic arithmetic operations and knowledge of basic electrical theory.
  • Flexibility in scheduling required.
  • Some travel required.
  • Must successfully pass background check and drug test.
  • Ability to read and respond to E-Mail communications.
  • Previous work experience with aircraft electrical repair and with specific aircraft maintenance and repair manuals.
  • Experience with systems such as NAV/COM/PULSE, Autopilot, GPS, and RVSM.
  • Strong working knowledge of aviation safety practices and technology.
  • An understanding of other aircraft systems, such as hydraulics and flight control.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Excellent analytical, attention-to-detail, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Steady hands and excellent eyesight.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Adaptable, driven to execute and accomplish tasks on tight timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Tenacious self-starter with a mature outlook.
  • Proven ability to operate independently and achieve results.
  • Able to multi-task and thrive in a fast paced and quickly changing environment.
