Airport Security Officer

/ Position: FBO Ground Security Officer or Supervisor               

/ Location: Glasgow Airport
/ Working Hours: Flexible dependant on individual’s availability

/ Contract: Variable-Hours 

Gama Aviation is seeking qualified Ground Security Officers (GSO) or experienced Ground Security Supervisors (GSS) to join our FBO team in Glasgow. These positions are offered on a variable‑hours contract, meaning hours are not guaranteed and may vary from week to week. Work schedules will be agreed in advance, aligned to business requirements and your availability, and will include weekend working.

Ground Security Supervisors provide direct supervision of personnel implementing aviation security controls. The role is responsible for maintaining standards, operational oversight, compliance monitoring, and incident management. Ground Security Officers will support the aviation security operations of company and third‑party aircraft, ensuring the correct aviation security measures are implemented at all times.

We are looking for individuals who are keen to support a busy FBO operation and contribute to the effective, efficient delivery of day‑to‑day activities within the business.

/ Responsibilities:

 GSS (in addition to GSO responsibilities):

• Supervise Ground Security Operatives
• Allocate staff duties and manage shift deployment (if required)
• Ensure aviation security operational procedures are correctly implemented
• Monitor screening operations and access control activities
• Conduct operational inspections and quality assurance checks
• Respond to detection of prohibited articles
• Manage security incidents and operational disruptions
• Liaise with airport management, airline representatives, and authorities
• Provide operational briefings and debriefings
• Ensure staff maintain required competencies
• Provide mentoring and on-the-job training
• Ensure reporting procedures are followed at all times
• Deal with disrupted passengers/clients in a professional manner

GSO:

• Follow all aviation security instructions and Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs)
• Conduct screening of persons and cabin baggage
• Conduct screening of hold baggage as required
• Screen airport supplies and in-flight supplies as required
• Control access into the  security restricted areas
• Check identification cards, airport IDs and vehicle permits
• Conduct security patrols landside and airside areas
• Conduct vehicle searches when required
• Undertake aircraft protection and monitoring of the Temporary Critical Part (TCP)
• Detect prohibited articles using approved screening methods
• Report security incidents, irregularities, or suspicious activity immediately
• Maintain vigilance and security awareness at all times
• Checking of staff and visitor passes to ensure authority to enter security restricted areas, setting up and maintaining the Temporary Critical Part (TCP)
• Greet guests to ensure they receive the very best customer service
• Issuance of temporary ID passes, drivers and vehicle passes and searching of vehicles prior to allowing access into the Security Restricted Areas (SRAs)
• Undertake a security search of the screening point and ensure testing of all security equipment prior to screening operations
• Complete admin duties including ensuring all operational documentation is complete and accurate for screening flights
• Provide support to the Head of Security in conducting quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with security standards and operational effectiveness

/ Skills, Qualifications and Experience required: 

• Experience of working in an aviation security environment at an airport or FBO
• Ideally possess experience as an Aviation Security Supervisor (GSS level) providing team leadership
• Good IT skills and basic knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications
• A passion for service delivery with knowledge of working in a highly regulated industry
• Excellent communication skills with a range of audiences, including management
• An efficient and organised personality
• Self-motivated and willing to learn and self-develop
• Ability to exercise time management to fulfil the role as directed

Security Requirements 

• Have good general health, reasonable strength and no physical incapacity which would prevent the undertaking of a range of aviation security duties
• Be able to pass a colour blindness test
• With or without vision aids be able to read a UK car registration plate at 23 meters distance
• With or without vision aids be able to read labels on bottles between 30 – 50 cm
• With or without an aid, be able to hear radio and telephone communications, audio signals emitted by security equipment, and an average conversational human voice at a distance of 2.5 metres in a quiet room
• Be free from dependence on alcohol or illegal substances
