Aircraft Survival and Flight Equipment Repairer-Direct

• Performs inspections, troubleshoots, disassembles, repairs, assembles and modifies highly complex aircrew flight equipment requiring strict adherence to technical orders and ensures exact critical tolerances are met in order to maintain aircrew safely.
• Designs, assembles, modifies, alters, various equipment made of fabric or webbing.
• Serves as production inspector by performing documentation, quality control, critical points inspections and in-place inspections on all equipment.
• Conducts formal academic classroom and technical instruction for all pilots, aircrew, and incentive flyer's on Aircrew Flight Equipment.
• Utilizes safety practices and procedures IAW established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

• This position may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle; an appropriate, valid driver's license may be required
• This position will require operating a motor vehicle on the flight line, employee must obtain/maintain Flight Line drivers license.
• Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period.
• This position may require prolonged standing, sitting, stooping, bending, pulling, lifting, and working in cramped, strained, and uncomfortable positions performing inspections and maintenance on equipment.
• This position may require climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding and pulling and pushing at various stages of assignments to assemble items and install assemblies
• This position may require lifting and carrying 30 to 50 pound items independently and occasionally lifts heavier items up to 150 pounds with assistance.
• This position will require working in hot, cold and inclement environments with some tasks on the flight line however the majority of the work will be performed in a temperature controlled environment.
• Must have vision acuity correctable to 20/20 and have normal color vision; may be exposed to body fluids while cleaning oxygen equipment, personal protective equipment will be provided as needed.
• This position may be subject to high noise levels while working on or around aircraft as well as bruises, punctures, scratches, or other injuries caused by handling sharp tools and materials treated with special finishes.
• This position may involve danger with handling munitions and high pressure oxygen cylinders and working in and around ejection seat aircraft and may be exposed to ionizing radiation, and caustics fumes from adhesives.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4800 General Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

They demonstrate strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing safe, accurate, and dependable work that supports aircrew readiness.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (KSA's)
1. Graduate of the Air Force Aircrew Life Support, Survival Equipment or Aircrew Flight Equipment technical school or sister service equivalent is required. Exemptions: FAA Senior or Master Rigger Certification or civil service experience in the Aircrew Life Support. Survival Equipment, or Aircrew Flight Equipment fields with at least two years experience in the past five years may fulfill this requirement.
2. Knowledge of aircrew flight equipment inspections and maintenance procedures; using, fitting, and caring for aircrew mght equipment; related supply procedures; aircrew night equipment continuation training classes and safety requirements, practices, and procedures including the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste, materials, and p/rTotechnics, as outlined in applicable standards, manuals, and directives.
