Arden White Aerospace and Aviation Recruitment are currently working with a leading aviation training and flight simulation organisation that is looking to recruit a Simulator Engineer, Shift Lead to join its team in Burgess Hill, West Sussex.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Simulator Engineer to take a lead position within a specialist aviation training environment, supporting the day to day operation and proactive maintenance of commercial Full Flight Simulators.

The role combines hands on simulator engineering with shift leadership, including supporting and training junior technicians, communicating with Flight Crews and Instructor Pilots and taking the lead in resolving technical issues during the shift.

The position operates within a 24/7 environment across 12 hour day and night shifts. Salary is open and dependent on experience and expectations, with the client interested in understanding what suitable candidates would require to consider a move.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative and routine maintenance on Full Flight Simulators and associated simulator systems.
  • Take the lead in diagnosing and rectifying technical faults across simulator systems.
  • Provide leadership, technical guidance and training to junior technicians.
  • Act as the primary lead during the shift, supporting the management of the team and resolution of technical issues.
  • Communicate effectively with Flight Crews and Instructor Pilots.
  • Record and track maintenance activities using the maintenance management system.
  • Review and update maintenance procedures in conjunction with the Training Centre Maintenance Manager.
  • Perform visual alignments, calibrations and tool inspections.
  • Carry out workshop repairs, including soldering and crimping.
  • Run, check and review Qualification Test Guide results and schedules.
  • Support logistics activities including parts receipt, repair, testing and validation.
  • Ensure quality management system processes are followed.
  • Provide customer support and respond to technical requirements in a timely manner.
  • Maintain simulators and associated areas to the required operational standards.
  • Work in accordance with relevant company, regulatory and safety procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with Part ORA and CS FSTD(A) regulations.

Person Specification

  • Detailed understanding of fault finding principles and corrective maintenance techniques.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic motion and control loading systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical motion and control loading systems.
  • Working knowledge of simulator visual systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of simulator hardware, fault finding and repair.
  • Knowledge and understanding of simulation software systems.
  • Experience carrying out preventative and routine simulator maintenance.
  • Experience running and checking Qualification Test Guide schedules.
  • Experience working on Boeing and/or Airbus simulators, particularly B737 and A320, would be advantageous.
  • Experience with CAE, FSI, Sim Industries, TRU and/or L3 training devices would be advantageous.
  • Previous leadership experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience within a customer support or client facing technical environment would be advantageous.
  • A detailed understanding of electrical, electronic and avionics systems would be advantageous.
  • An HNC/HND in an aircraft related discipline or Electrical and Electronic Engineering would be a distinct advantage.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide guidance and support to junior members of the team.
  • Flexibility to work within a 24/7 operational environment.

The normal shift pattern can operate as either 4 days, 4 off, 4 nights and repeat, or 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off and repeat.

The client is also open to job share arrangements, offering the potential for a 4 on, 12 off shift pattern, subject to two suitable candidates being available.
