My client is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer - Mechanical Antenna Assembly to join on them on a 12-month contract. As a Manufacturing Engineer - Mechanical Antenna Assembly, you will be responsible for the Manufacturing Engineering inputs for the production of Antenna products using repeatable and robust methods and processes.

Pay: £38.42 per hour via Umbrella inside IR35
Contract: 12 Months - 37 hours per week Monday - Friday
To provide the Manufacturing Engineering inputs for the production of Antenna products using repeatable and robust methods and processes.
A mechanical background in the following is key -
Precision assembly/manufacturing techniques and
Knowledge of Work instruction creation
PC based production systems (SAP Delmia, and 3DExperience for example)
Schedule and budget estimation and control.

AIT Key Product Owners (KPOs) - AIT Delivery Manager - AIT R&D / R&T Team - AIT Improvements Team - AIT Industrial Engineers
Project Management Team - Engineering Support to Manufacture (ESM) - Product Assurance Team (PA) - Design Teams - Responsible Engineers - Procurement Teams - Materials and Processes
General Responsibilities -
* Definition (requirements specification) and Design of tooling / build aids for manufacturing execution
* Support to R&D / R&T for process developments ensuring optimised production process is established.
* Develop and own Research & Development Work Requests for developments linked with owner's process.
* Training module creation and maintenance.
* Manufacturing documents maintenance and support
* Responsible for ensuring that our working modes and processes are standardised, optimised, and current.
* Produce new processes, undertake process improvement and maintenance and monitor process implementation in operations, including process measurement and times.
Customisation / Preparation Phase Responsibilities -
* Support project DMU sessions to ensure design for manufacture specific to process.
* Create the documentation required for the production phases, including: Work Masters, work instructions, and procedures and specifications.
* Review and sign-off drawings ensuring they meet requirements for Design for Manufacture and Test within AIT.
* Ensure that specific product requirements, taken from the Packing, Handling and Transport Specification, are captured and included in work masters, work instructions and procedures.
* Technical Input to project / product to ensure that new process and test methods are optimised, for AIT activities including production / process time definition. (Design for Manufacture / Assembly & Design for Test).
* Act as support to the Product Lead Engineer during the MRR process.
Operations Phase Responsibilities -
* Technical liaison with all concerned stakeholders for process issues, i.e. lead investigations, occurrence's resolution and operational support.
* Support quality reviews and Root Cause Analysis using lean tools, including driving and owning PPS's that link to the owners process.
* Produce re-work instructions / deviation plans / discrepancies based on project requirements and identify parts and tooling required to carry them out. (materials, tooling, requirements and methodology)
* Review and approve all unplanned work relevant to their process. Provide feedback to author and ensure all resources (materials, tooling, requirements and methodology) are defined.
End of Project Responsibilities
* Support Lessons Learned exercises at key milestones involving all key stakeholders in phase (Operations, Process Owners, AIT Management, and Design)
* Ensure that feedback is provided from the cleanroom and the Process Engineers so that the current processes can be updated to improve them / remove non-quality.
* Process measurement and capability feedback and optimisation -
Manufacturing and Production Engineering
* Appreciation of precision and detailed fitting manufacturing techniques
* Use of Windchill, Electronic Production Systems, 3D live, 3D experience or other similar systems
* Understanding of build documentation to ensure clear instructions are given to shop floor operators.
* Driving build quality through review of processes and implementation of improvements
* Time served engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications
* Good understanding and detailed experience of mechanical engineering and systems, including but not limited to:
Lean manufacturing techniques including 5S
Root cause analysis and continuous improvement (Green belt).
Support to operations.
Manufacturing / Test processes for the space industry.
* A background in an aerospace engineering environment, preferably within the space sector
* High level technical skills and relevant experience.
* Procedures and process control.
* Able to work offsite (UK and abroad) for undefined periods at short notice.
* Work overtime and occasional shifts, as and when required.
* Able to support out of normal hours work using the "on call" rota process, as and when required.
* Team working and team leading skills.
* Practical and proactive.
* Process and Quality driven approach with high attention to detail.
* High self-motivation and ability to deal with changing priorities on a multi project basis.
* Good planning skills and process competence (MRP system experience an advantage).
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Previous experience of aerospace structures and build requirements is a distinct advantage.
* Good time management.
* A good understanding of spacecraft manufacture and build philosophies
* Clean room experience
* Mechanical & Electrical design / manufacturing / validation / experience
* Knowledge of Health and Safety principles and their application to the specific environment

Education & Training
Minimum of HNC level in a Manufacturing discipline.
A lesser qualification is acceptable if a high level of similar industry experience can be demonstrated.
