Through DoD SkillBridge and Hiring Our Heroes, Sierra Nevada Corporation provides internships to service members transitioning to the civilian workforce. These internships include up to six months of on-the-job training for eligible service members. During this time, participants gain valuable work experience in the civilian sector and build professional networks as they prepare for their transition to full-time civilian work.

As an Avionics Technician, you will be using your skills and expertise to repair and maintain electronic systems involved with the operation of an aircraft. You'll be responsible for basic installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing our aircraft avionics and electrical system components and keeping our aircraft in airworthy condition under minimal supervision.

The ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area is a leader in ISR and aviation, it is a leading prime manned and unmanned aircraft systems integrator for innovative, high-performance ISR and aviation systems. Its end-to-end Command, Control, Computers, Communications and Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities encompass design, integration, test, certification, ground/flight training and complete logistics support. IAS tailors solutions to customer cost, performance, and schedule requirements and designs to consistently exceed expectations – with an unrivaled record of on time and on (or under) budget deliveries.

Must-haves:

  • Currently serving as active duty military and be eligible to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 2 or more years of relevant experience
    • A higher-level degree may substitute for experience
    • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Ability to understand applicable technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and/or publications; ability to route wires per technical drawings  
  • Basic skills with avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, and wiring installation
  • Experience with soldering and crimping techniques
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with FCC and FCC GROL
  • Basic understanding of spectrometer, oscilloscope. and/or itot static equipment
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military
