What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $122,000-$170,000. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

We are currently seeking a Director of Airport Security to join our team!

The Director of Airport Security will lead and direct the units of the Airport Security section at Denver International Airport and report to the Senior Director of Airport Operations. The units consist of Compliance and Enforcement and Badging and Permitting. The Compliance and Enforcement unit is responsible for administration of the Airport Security Program, management of numerous security guard contracts, completion of regulatory audits, and oversight of security violation processes. The Badging and Permitting unit handles the credentialing process for DEN’s 40,000+ badge holders including background checks and adjudication, security training, and vehicle permitting procedures. This position will be responsible for performance oversight of these units as related to the goals and objectives of the airport's strategic plan, managing budget and expenses, developing and implementing projects and programs that will improve their performance, and serving as a liaison to airport stakeholders such as the airlines, concessions, and the TSA.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Directs the development of security policies and procedures to enforce all Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Airport Security Program regulations and serves as DEN's Airport Security Coordinator
  • Sets performance standards for the section and ensures that operations achieve or exceed performance metrics. Demonstrates personal accountability and responsibility, and holds staff to same standards
  • Coaches, mentors, and challenges staff. Champions continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and new opportunities. Sets performance standards for the division and ensure operations achieve or exceed performance metrics
  • Directs the management and oversight of a large security guard contracts responsible for executing physical security activities
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to address security concerns, allocate resources, conduct drills and table-top exercises, evaluate policies and procedures, and monitor security systems
  • Facilitates airport law enforcement activities and collaboration to ensure a unified approach across multiple jurisdictions to support the airport's strategic plan (i.e. TSA, FBI, police, etc.)
  • Provides security related expertise to other airport divisions regarding current and future airport projects to ensure compliance with security regulations, policies and procedures
  • Provides strategic planning and development for the section's operating, maintenance and capital budgets; and monitors the budget and oversees financial well-being by analyzing cost effectiveness. Directs cost control activities
  • Resolves operational and management issues, makes decisions that include multiple perspectives and solves underlying problems. Contributes to the development and implementation of section work plans based on the annual and strategic plans.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Five (5) plus years leadership experience leading airport operations related functions and teams, to include leading employees responsible for managing teams
  • Knowledge of and experience with technologies and information systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with TSA 1542 regulations
  • Experience with the Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS)
  • Experience in building collaborative relationships with Transportation Security Administration leadership and airport stakeholders, including Federal Security Directors and Deputy Federal Security Directors.
  • Experience in building collaborative relationships with first responders
  • Strong education or experience background

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s).
  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience in aviation operations, aviation management, or experience with large hub airport or military facility management, which must have included management of subordinate supervisors.
  • Education and Experience Equivalency:    
  • Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post- high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certification Requirement:    
  • By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts
