Flydubai sacks pilot after failing alcohol test ahead of Dubai flight

Flydubai have sacked a pilot who failed an alcohol test shortly before he was due to operate flight FZ8018 from Kathmandu, Nepal to Dubai. The incident occured after one of the crew members suspected that the pilot was drunk, and subsequently reported him. The pilot was immediately tested and found to have a blood alcohol level above the legal acceptable level, and was therefore immediately dismissed from operating that flight.

Following the incident, Flydubai terminated the pilots contract, issuing a statement saying that ‘the safety of our passengers and crew is our priority.’

“The safety of our passengers and crew is our priority.”

They furthermore said they had a ‘zero-tolerance policy on flight crew found to be in contravention of the regulations regarding alcohol consumption. In line with these stringent rules, we conduct random tests on our operational staff. We further insist that anyone suspected of consuming alcohol prior to flight duty must be tested.’

A replacement crew was drafted in to operate the flight, which arrived in Dubai 10.5 hours later than scheduled.
