Safran Electronics & Defence delivers onboard intelligence and actuation solutions that enable customers to observe, decide and guide on land, at sea, in the air and in space across both civil and defence sectors.
What does the role look like?
Working as part of a specialist GDS team, you will be responsible for assembling and testing high-lift actuation products and sub-assemblies. You will work to engineering drawings, manufacturing process plans and acceptance test procedures within a regulated, quality-driven aerospace production environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the world's leading aerospace organisations, supporting the assembly, repair, overhaul and testing of high-lift actuation systems used across critical civil and defence aerospace programmes. Working within a precision engineering environment, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality aerospace components, ensuring every product meets the exacting standards expected within a safety-critical industry.
What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like?
• Evaluate, strip, assemble and rebuild aircraft units and sub-assemblies using approved mechanical and electrical techniques.
• Assemble high-lift units and components in accordance with engineering drawings, manufacturing process plans, Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs) and Product Acceptance Tests.
• Carry out functional, acceptance and pressure testing using calibrated test equipment.
• Record test results accurately and maintain full product traceability through production documentation.
• Perform dimensional inspection using precision measuring equipment.
• Diagnose faults and support repair activities throughout the manufacturing and overhaul process.
• Assess components against engineering requirements and identify any non-conformances.
• Complete repairs in accordance with aerospace quality standards and approved procedures.
• Support stock control activities and ensure the correct handling of materials, tooling and equipment.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment in line with HSE requirements.
• Participate in Lean manufacturing initiatives, continuous improvement activities and workshop improvement projects.
• Support team objectives and work collaboratively to achieve production targets.
What will you bring to the role?
Essential Experience
• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical or Engineering discipline (or allied trade).
• Strong mechanical assembly or repair experience within a precision engineering environment.
• Experience working from engineering drawings, manufacturing process plans and technical documentation.
• Good understanding of mechanical assemblies and hydraulic systems.
• Competent using precision measuring equipment including micrometres, verniers and gauges.
• Previous experience within Aerospace, Defence or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Strong attention to detail with a quality-first mindset.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
Desirable Experience
• Experience assembling, repairing or testing hydraulic or actuation systems.
• Ability to interpret basic electrical schematics.
• Fault-finding and diagnostic experience.
• Experience using aerospace quality systems and acceptance testing procedures.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
