AAG Defence Services is a MAA Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) based in Brize Norton, UK. We work in partnership with Airbus Aerospace & Defence to supply dedicated MRO services, including heavy and line maintenance, to the Royal Air Force’s fleet of A400M Atlas aircraft.

Our committed and flexible team of over 100 engineers and management are based in RAF Brize Norton in a dedicated 24,000m², three-bay facility designed to optimise the maintenance of the aircraft.

Job Purpose

Responsible and accountable for the control of all tools and GSE used within the AAGDS Part 145 facilities, ensuring all planned aircraft maintenance is supported by serviceable tooling and support equipment in line with Military Aviation Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles.  

Key responsibilities

  •  Provide oversight and management of all AAGDS Tooling and GSE requirements to support AAGDS aircraft maintenance activities. 
  • Provide immediate management function for Tool Custodian staff, ensuring appropriate training, competence assessment and performance reviews are conducted in line with company policy and their specific role profiles.
  • Ensure availability of the TCMAX system to support accountability of all organization tools, including the implementation of a backup ‘business continuity’ system for periods of TCMAX outage. 
  • Responsible for the tool cage and ensure inventory check of tool cage is completed by all shift Tool Custodians.
  • Ensure that a 100% tool accountability check is carried out prior to start work, at shift change and at the end of shift in line with MAA Regulatory Articles.
  • To perform and be accountable for independent 100% toolbox checks of all toolboxes and all items that are removed and returned to the tool cage.
  • To perform a 100% of tooling in alignment with the weekly tool check schedule.
  • Ensure all tools are issued in accordance with current policy and procedures.
  • To act is point of contact for engagement with Tooling / GSE and aircraft staging suppliers by reporting unserviceable / defects of tooling and support equipment to determine if warranty, cost or risk to company can be determined.
  • To act as point of contact for engagement with Tooling / GSE and aircraft staging suppliers for timely servicing, calibration and support.
  • Ensure that all new or replacements tools are effectively controlled by appropriate dispatch, receipt, registration and upload to tool control systems.
  • Ensure that a TC Max tool report for all aircraft in work is run to provide real time accountability of all tools.
  • Ensure that quarantine of tooling and equipment is managed in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Ensure handovers between shift Tool Custodians are to an appropriate standard and in line with company policy and procedures. 
  • Provide support to the maintenance manager for the generation, review and implementation of risk assessments to support aircraft maintenance and support functions. 
  • Provide support to the maintenance manager for the generation, review and implementation of procedures and work instructions to support aircraft maintenance and support functions. 
  • Provide oversight and support for all company maintenance vehicles, including managing defect reporting, servicing and consumable requirements, escalating to the maintenance manager any potential risk of non-availability.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Use of IT packages including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Experience of working in a tool stores environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements.
  • High level of attention to detail and capable of producing a consistent standard whilst performing a repetitive function.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

 Desirable skills

  • Previous experience in an aviation environment and/or tool store environment.
  • Dangerous Goods by Air Certificate (If expired, by not by more than 30 days).
