Responsibilities

WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTEXT:

Directly supports Technology Leadership with communications to approx. 4000 Team Members within Southwest Airlines.

Quickly and accurately writes, ghostwrites, edits, and proofreads Company documents for Leadership within established timeframes in accordance with style guides.

Plays a supporting role in updating Southwest’s Technology internal communications and intranet content.

Collaborates with multimedia for Technology meetings and events.

Prioritizes multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Takes initiative to drive communication-related projects, often with little direction.

Takes initiative to research and suggest new ways to better current communication channels within the department.

Communicates with Leaders, Co-workers, and Customers respectfully and professionally.

May perform other similar job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders.

Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, or related field preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Communications related work experience preferred (part-time jobs, internships, etc).

Writing experience preferred (school newsletter, business, or creative).

Experience writing Press Releases.

Experience with Editing Communications preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Speech-writing experience a plus.

Event planning experience a plus.

Public speaking skills and/or experience a plus.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

Ability to support and coordinate large format meetings and events. (AV setup, calendaring, logistics, surveys, etc.)

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and effectively prioritize assignments (including ad hoc).

Provide creative/innovative ideas on improving communication delivery methods (e.g., channels, etc.).

Highly proficient in Word and PowerPoint tools.

Strong organization skills.

Proficient knowledge of project processes, problem management tools and procedure

Proficient knowledge of MS Project and MS Office Suite.

Understanding of the interplay between technology applications and systems infrastructure.

Understands the impact a specific application has on operational and business functions.

Strong Customer Service and Team orientation.

Demonstrates and employs active listening skills.

Maintains composure under pressure and accurately assesses problem situations.

Completes tasks by scheduled completion date.

Reorders job priorities as needed.

Demonstrates emerging Leadership skills to give direction and maintain positive relationships with internal Customers.

Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.

Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
