About the role:

Thales UK have an exciting opportunity for an motivated and talented Systems Architect to work within the Land and Air Systems (LAS), specifically our Integrated-Protection Air Systems (IAS) business unit; a team dedicated to working on some of the next generation, cutting edge technology for Land-based Command & Control Systems. Over recent years, IAS has successful positioned itself in growth markets and has continued to grow and expand.

 

This role provides a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a highly skilled and supportive team where you will be responsible for the development of innovative concepts and high-level systems architectures using existing and emerging technologies and to strengthen the overall IAS Solution architecting capability.

Duties will include but not be limited to the following:

As part of the Systems Architects team, the role will require both significant customer and internal organisation interfacing, leading a variety of technical solution definitions.

  • Engage with Defence customers to understand their current and future Air C4I needs
  • Work directly with business capture leads to define innovative technical solutions
  • Own the solution through the capture and bid process
  • Work with the Product Line Manager and Product Line Architect to define product and technical strategy
  • Generation of Enterprise Architectures & Models in the context of operational environments
  • Ensure detailed and accurate budgetary estimates are generated for solution architectures
  • Provision of technical guidance to internal engineering teams
  • Act as technical expert and reviewer at major programme reviews
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Systems Engineering discipline
  • Must be willing to travel in the UK and overseas

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

We are committed to hiring individuals with a “can do” and positive attitude with willingness to learn and improve on skills and knowledge. We are looking for an individual who has significant experience of Datalinks and a detailed understanding of the engineering life cycle, along with the following skills and attributes:

·         Significant experience of Datalinks

·         Detailed understanding of the complete Engineering lifecycle

·         Good working knowledge of DOORS for requirements management

·         Practical application of Scenario based modelling for Software-intensive Systems development (e.g. using Rhapsody/UML)

  • Capable of demonstrating understanding of design and acceptance issues relating to software intensive systems
  • Understanding of specialty engineering and how this impacts on Systems Engineering (i.e. Safety, Human Factors, ILS, Security)
  • Appreciation of Enterprise Architecting (e.g. using MoDAF/DoDAF)
  • A track record of successfully developing customer solutions
  • Excellent analytical skills, with attention to detail
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Articulate and confident with experience of dealing with Customers, Partners and/or Suppliers in the development of systems

·         Ideally Engineering Degree and experience of working within the defence sector

 

We provide excellent benefits along with a competitive salary comprising of private medical, yearly bonus, notable pension contribution along with 201 hours holiday (27 days) plus one company day per year.

We offer flexibility to work from home and for this particular role; there would be an expectation to be in the office half of the working week and be willing to travel in the UK and overseas.

We would also consider a relocation package for the right person

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held; if not currently held it is expected that the post holder will undergo SC Clearance, please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.
