And Lockheed Martin UK at Ampthill is offering the opportunity to join a great team who buy a huge range of products ranging from stationery through buildings to highly complex technical sub systems (such as electro optics), with our ongoing success depending on them all.
The selected individual will get the chance to work as part of the existing team to learn about the process and techniques used to ensure items are bought and delivered on time, including developing strategies for new and existing suppliers in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the US with the chance to visit and understand their capabilities and performance. They will learn about budgeting, how to achieve cost reductions and other efficiencies drawing on the wealth of experience in the current team. They also will gain an excellent understanding of our supplier base in both the defence and domestic sectors whilst learning how to manage suppliers effectively, acting as part of the team. They will get a deep understanding of defence and other quality requirements, scheduling and risk management, and will develop plans and registers, undertaking actions necessary to ensure on time delivery.
They will participate in supplier reviews internally and externally, get a clear appreciation of the controls required across all the products. They will also develop improvement plans undertaking specific projects with defined benefits, working with the rest of the team as necessary
The right candidate will quickly be granted authority to place and manage orders on behalf of the Company, involving placing/rescheduling purchase orders, investigating delivery issues, entering data on SAPs, participating in supplier contract negotiations and collating and analysing data.
This provides an opportunity to become one of a small team who are providing innovative and cutting edge technology in both the defence and civil sectors.
You will have the opportunity to progress in the apprenticeship up to a level 6 / Degree level qualification.
Approximately 20% of your time during the working week will be set aside to complete your academic studies as well as being released to attend any off site study events as required.

Please note that the LMUK Ampthill working pattern is a 9 day fortnight with the site closed every second Friday.

Required skills, qualifications and experience
* This apprenticeship requires a minimum of A-levels or equivalent qualifications.
* This role requires a confident, highly motivated individual, determined to succeed in a busy and rewarding engineering focussed environment. The ideal candidate will have an enquiring mind, respond enthusiastically to guidance and be able to both acquire skills rapidly and put them into practice quickly. The ability to communicate and establish highly effective relationships within the workplace and with suppliers Is essential.
* Personal organisation, including good time management, a demonstrated ability to learn quickly together with a willingness to take on challenging assignments will underpin success. A passion to perform with excellence is vital.
Desired skills, qualifications and experience
* Prior experience of any work in or related to Supply Chain or Procurement would be desirable.
* An interest in the UK Defence Industry is highly desirable.
