The Collins Aerospace SATCOM Communications team seeks a Staff Software Engineer to support the Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance department’s SATCOM software group. The group supports, integrates and develops multiple commercial avionics Iridium and SATCOM products for the Air Transport and Business and Regional aircraft markets. In this position you will be part of product developments for the growing field of aircraft satellite communication solutions.

This position is for an experienced Software Engineering professional with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise. Develops, coordinates and conducts complex tests and debugs control and diagnostic systems , makes recommendations on changes in the selection and application of software production components to management, implements major components, presents designs review, and coordinates with other organizations.

Job Responsibilities

*

Lead and mentor teams on the design, coding, testing, integration and documentation of complex software. Drives needed changes to internal processes and tools for software development to increase productivity or quality.

*

Recommend changes in the selection and application of software production components to improve and develop software engineering activities.

*

Design and implement software and build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development.

*

Understand and utilize the appropriate RC processes and tools during product development, resulting in increased product quality and improving customer satisfaction.

*

Participate in cross-functional team efforts for products and sub-systems of moderate complexity.

*

Liaises closely with other project team members in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software to ensure smooth operations on software engineering activities.

*

Build, test and deliver real-time embedded software to target environments in support of program and customer commitments

*

Translate system level requirements into software requirements and implementation

*

Participate in Design and Code Reviews with other members of the team to identify and eliminate problems early in the development process.

*

Determines end user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, and input data acquisition.

*

Lead engineering estimates for tasks such as change requests or problem reports.

*

May develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.

*

May train software developers in the use of tools and software implementation.

Job Requirements

*

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required.

*

Advanced skill levels in C++ and Linux development

*

Advanced experience in an avionics/aerospace domain environment

*

Advanced experience in Python (or scripting languages)

*

Experience leading & mentoring engineers.

Additional experience a plus:

*

Development experience with networking technologies and communications

*

Development experience in both Waterfall and Agile environments

*

Development experience on automated test frameworks
