Overview

ARDE, Inc., an Aerojet Rocketdyne Company, designs and manufactures pressure vessels for aerospace applications. We are currently seeking a Specialist Manufacturing Engineer with very strong experience in welding and continual improvement.

This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Work is performed with minimal direction.

30% - Develop welding techniques, procedures including selection of equipment utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.

20% - Provide oversight to a team of at least four welders providing guidance for production welding, development welding, and equipment maintenance.

15% - Identify and champion continuous improvement projects throughout manufacturing.

10% - Conduct research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures. Prepare technical reports to document results.

10% - Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.

10% - Direct and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.

5% - Contact personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel, or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Weld Engineering, Mechanical Engineer or other related discipline and at least 9 years of experience in aerospace working with nickel, stainless, ferrous and aluminum alloys (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Additional Requirements:

* Experience developing weld parameters for manual, Semi-Automatic G.T.A. welding and electron beam welding.
* Experience dispositioning hardware and performing root cause analysis.
* Familiarity developing planning, drawings, and pertinent documents such as weld parameters.
* Demonstrated teaming skills. Ability to lead teams and work in a collaborative team environment.
* Strong analytical and communication skills (written and oral) are required.
* Experience with continuous improvement tools including VSM, 3P, Kaizen, mistake proofing and root cause.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
