The Software Engineer develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements. Works individually or as part of a team. Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS)/Government-Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components
Build, integrate, maintain customer systems
Feedback into system design
Make hardware/software/RF recommendations
Initial system configurations (network, OS, software, power/environmental monitors, …)
Periodic system optimization
Kickstart/VMware based virtualized deployment environment
Deploy customer owned systems globally
Test/evaluate new hardware/software to meet future customer requirements
Troubleshoot issues escalated by help desk
Respond to security incident reports
Patch/update COTS/GOTS software and Oss
Create/maintain custom scripts for managing hundreds of deployed customer systems (VMs/physical servers)
Bash, Perl, PowerShell
Update documentation as needed to capture current system setup/status to meet configuration management requirements
Twenty (20) years engineering experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity within the Federal Government is required. Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Five (5) years of additional system administration experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
•Demonstrated experience with Mongo DB, MySQL, Accumulo, Elastic Search, scripting and automated testing
•Demonstrated experience planning, designing, testing and implementing database architectures
•Experience analyze legacy system architectures, identifying system limitations and making recommendations for change
•Demonstrated experience maintaining and updating legacy system databases
•Demonstrated experience supporting standup and deployment of standalone database systems
•Familiarly with Amazon Web Services
•Knowledge of Wireless communication technologies to include, 802.11 and cellular communications
