This job description is for a Software Project Engineering position within the Common Core Software team of the Common Platform Software department. The Software Project Engineer is the single point of contact for software engineering on a development project. The candidate will have primary execution responsibilities to ensure project remains within budget, on schedule and meets requirements. This involves tracking, reporting, and analyzing earned value metrics as required to understand program performance. The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical leadership and project management of the design and development activities, within the guidelines set by the Technical Project Manager, Program Manager, and customer. The candidate must have strong working knowledge of embedded software development and a strong desire to organize and lead multiple software development projects.
In addition to these technical skills, the candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation), enjoy working with a wide variety of people and be capable of prioritizing multiple tasks. The candidate will potentially act in the role of a product owner, or scrum master for agile projects. The candidate must be an effective leader and be able to manage teams between 3-10 software engineers.
The candidate must have demonstrated application of integrated project management, engineering development process, earned value, and risk management. They should also be able to recommend staffing and/or schedule adjustment based on project metrics.
Candidates should be adaptable to change, determined to accomplish tasks based on program schedule, collaborate with teammates in order to make the best decisions, enjoy learning new technologies, be self-motivated and contribute to a positive work environment.
The position includes the following tasks:
* Develop a consistent technical understanding of the software to be developed
* Work with program management and the software development team to create the program execution plan
* Track execution for compliance with the Rockwell Collins technical consistent process
* Proactively manage project risks and issues
* Understand the value of the project and its dependencies to other projects or programs
* Represent the project engineering team to management and customers
* Provide well balanced communication both to management and to the development team
* Organize and lead software bid and proposal efforts
* Manage technical aspects of subcontract engineering efforts
* Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.
* US Citizenship
* Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
* Candidates must have experience being a project lead engineer on projects with at least 3 engineers
* Candidates must also have experience working with and/or leading engineering subcontractors
