ARDE, a division of Aerojet Rocketdyne, is a recognized leader in the design and manufacturing of aerospace pressure vessels and subsystems. Located in Carlstadt, NJ, ARDE is currently seeking to hire a Senior Manufacturing Engineer.
This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
Responsibilities will include:
20% - Develop innovative solutions to manufacturing production problems through identification and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes including conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, conferring with suppliers and soliciting observations from operators.
20% - Refine and enhancement of processes by applying continuous improvement and key Lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to areas of production.
20% - Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
10% - Support new product development through review of engineering drawings, development of tooling and fixtures, development of process planning and work with vendors on tooling and product manufacturing.
10% - Determine root cause of non-conformances and develop corrective actions.
10% - Identify and implement solutions for issues relating to safety, quality, productivity, and cost reductions.
10% - Assist in training of operational personnel as it relates to the proper set-up, use of tooling and equipment.
Requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering and 5 years of related experience preferably in a metal fabrication environment (or an equivalent combination of education and experience such as a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience or a PhD with 1 year of related experience).
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
* Demonstrated understanding and successful application of Lean principles such as Continuous Improvement Process, Kaizen, SPC, Value Stream Mapping, 5S and Total Productive Maintenance.
* Candidate should have a high aptitude for problem solving and troubleshooting and be a self-starter to work on projects without supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization. Depending on the location of the position, visual certification requirement may apply.
