Safety Manager

 

British International Helicopters Services Ltd (BIHSL) operate AW189, S61 and AS365 N2 helicopters from a number of different international sites with a new type likely to be added in 2021. As a business, we predominantly support the UK Ministry of Defence with passenger and equipment transfers, and Search and Rescue (SAR).

 

We are currently recruiting for a Safety Manager to act as the focal point, and be responsible for, the development, administration, maintenance, and promotion of an effective safety management system.

 

Job Title:                            Safety Manager

Location:                            Any BIHSL Company Site - With company-wide travel

 

Reporting directly to the Accountable Manager, the Safety Manager’s role is to support the further development and embedding of the Safety Culture within BIHSL, with the aim of achieving enhanced safety outcomes across the company. Specifically, to act as the primary focal point for all aspects of the BIHSL’s Safety Management System (SMS), coordinating the development and embedding of the SMS’s core processes, functions and outputs. The Safety Manager shall be the CAA/EASA Form 4 holder for the position within the required approvals.

 

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote awareness and effective adoption of the core SMS processes, functions and outputs to the management team and personnel across the company.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance with EASA, CAA and MAA requirements.
  • Coordination and administration of the company’s safety reporting systems, including flight data monitoring and Centrik confidentiality, safety trend and human factor classification requirements.
  • Facilitating hazard identification, risk analysis and management, including management of change.
  • Maintenance and monitoring of the company safety risk registers.
  • Monitoring the implementation of actions taken to mitigate risks.
  • Ensuring the provision of periodic reports on safety performance in support of the safety meeting structure.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of management documentation.
  • Ensuring that there is safety management system training available and that it meets acceptable standards.
  • Provide safety support and advice to operational and non-operational departments.
  • Safety promotion and communication.
  • To oversee confidential safety surveys.
  • Delivery of the link between investigation output and SMS processes.
  • To develop effective data measurements in support of SPIs.
  • Safety data management including output to operational areas.
  • Oversight and delivery of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
  • Documentation of all policy and process as defined under the departmental responsibilities with regards to SMS, Safety Investigations, Just Culture and the ERP.

 

Selection Criteria

  • Proven experience of implementing and managing an aviation Safety Management System.
  • A detailed knowledge of safety management principles and practices.
  • Experience in encouraging the development of an engaged air safety culture.
  • Trained and experienced in aviation safety investigation techniques.
  • Trained in aviation accident investigation techniques.
  • Trained and experienced in human performance, including a thorough understanding of human and organisational factors.
  • Trained and experienced in emergency response planning and oversight.
  • Trained and experienced in regulatory compliance.
  • Managerial experience in the functions of aviation operations, support functions, regulatory requirements and industry best practise.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Inter and intra-organisation project management skills.
