L3 Datron is currently seeking students to fill a summer RF/Antenna Engineer Intern role in Simi Valley, CA. The Engineering Intern position provide an opportunity for engineering students who are currently pursuing a degree in either EE or a related engineering degree, to get hands-on experience working with engineers in a cutting edge communications environment. The position will enable a student to gain real-world experience by providing support and by working on projects. The student will be directed in their tasks by senior level employees and are responsible for assisting with projects as well as daily departmental/team activities.

Undersupervision and mentorship, the RF/Antenna Intern will assist the Microwave department with designing, developing, and testing radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems architecture, components, circuits, or products. Includes antenna design, both reflector and array systems, frequency synthesizers, transmitters, and receivers.

Additional responsibilities include:

* Designs RF antenna systems based on customer specifications such as G/T, bandwidth, group delay, gain flatness, up/down conversion schemes, intermodulation produdcts, P1 dB and saturation power, etc.

Performs antenna analysis, including antenna efficiency and gain, VSWR, and radiation patterns.

*

Writes component specifications and interfaces with vendors to write test procedures.

*

Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates microwave devices and systems.

*

Ensures that MW product designs meet company and/or customer requirements in terms of costs, performance, and manufacturability of end products.

*

Development responsibilities include the design of microwave antennas and its integration with passive components including baluns, power dividers, diplexers, impedance matching networks, hybrids, and filters.

*

Effectively transfers antenna designs to manufacturing, and ensures products meet specifications and quality requirements.

*

Ensures that designs are suitable for volume manufacture.

*

Supports or leads the generation of specification and test documents, creates original electrical designs, and works jointly with Mechanical Engineering, CAD Designers, Machine Shop and Manufacturing to ensure efficient manufacturing of hardware.

*

Conducts and supervises prototype development and testing using state-of-the-art testing facilities.

*

Supports antenna systems integration and acceptance tests with customers.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

* Currently enrolled in at least a Bachelor of Science degree program for Electrical Engineering or similar curriculum, from four-year College or University.

*

Must possess basic knowledge of antennas, reflectors, phased arrays, beamformers, transmission line theory, amplifiers, power amplifiers and passive RF circuit design.

*

Familiarity with the characteristics and design of various antenna types such as uniform or tapered slot, cavity backed aperture, broadband, wire, horn, and microstrip is preferred.

*

Experience with one or more design and analysis software tools such as HFSS, CST, TICRA GRASP and Mician is preferred.

*

Must have hands-on experience performing S-parameter measurements, antenna pattern measurements using either far or near field techniques, and antenna gain measurements.

*

Knowledge of practical RF system considerations such as path loss calculation, cascade noise figure, and intercept point is desirable.
