Located in Kent Washington, Protective Coatings Inc. is a leading provider of full service finishing for the aerospace, electronics and medical industries in both commercial and defense applications. Services include but are not limited to non-destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening and abrasive blasting, passivation, cadmium and nickel zinc plating, chromic, sulfuric and boric sulfuric acid anodizing and the application of chromate conversion coating on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Organic coating includes the application and testing of multiple resin systems such as epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry-film lubricants, powder coatings and Teflon. Current approvals include the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program, (NADCAP), Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company, Boeing Defense and Space, Boeing/Philadelphia, Boeing Long Beach, Grumman, Gulfstream, Lockheed Martin, Goodrich, Bombardier, Cessna and Sikorsky among much else.
Founded in 1976, Protective Coatings Inc. was later acquired by Precision Castparts in 2012, and became part of the Aerostructures Division. As a defense contractor Protective Coatings Inc. is registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls as a subsidiary of Precision Castparts Corp and is fully compliant with all relevant facets of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations.
Selected candidates for a Level 1 Quality In-process Inspector will be expected to perform in-process checks, conformance tests, and verify appearance criteria compliance to specification requirements in regards to aerospace finishes, and surface enhancement or treatment applications. Candidates must have the ability and desire to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced production environment, be resourceful and innovative along with presenting a strong business ethic and compliance to leadership and company policies, and a good communicator with the ability to represent the company in a positive manner. The level 1 candidate will also be expected to perform a variety of quality control tests specifically for the plating and chemical treatment area, and paint department for primer and dry-film lubricant finishes. Types of inspection tests will include: visual inspections, adhesion testings, chemical testings, and measured thickness of coatings using Permascopes, to name a few. Level 1 Inspectors shall demonstrate basic computer skills, and will be required to perform recordkeeping of quality testing results. As a condition of assignment, Level 1 Quality In-process Inspector candidates may be expected to process product controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and/or Export Administration Regulations. As such these candidates may be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, Legal Permanent Residence or protected status as a Non-Citizen National of the U.S.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
• Understand, adhere, and demonstrate to the company’s commitment to QUALITY and SAFETY!
• Maintaining regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged work schedule.
• Follow all policies, procedures, and work instructions.
• Wear and maintain proper personal equipment (PPE).
• Perform visual in-process inspections and basic testing of finishes (plating and painting) to confirm conformance to specification and/or customer requirements.
• Performing calibration and verification of calibration of inspection equipment used in measurement of thickness of applied coatings.
• Perform recordkeeping of quality testing results.
• Excellent vision whether or not corrected including normal color vision.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work alone or as a member of a team, good cooperative skills.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods with limited movement.
• Ability to use coating thickness gages (i.e. Permascopes) to measure paint and plating thicknesses.
• Familiarized with aerospace finish process specifications and the ability to interpret required finish criteria and testings.
• Understanding of Configuration Management.
• Blueprint reading experience in finish applications is preferred, but not required.
• Basic computer skills in MS Word and Excel is preferred, but not required.
Level of Education:
• General Standard education including the ability to read and write in English.
