The Principal-System Engineer serves as the IFEC enterprise architect providing system oversight of design and development to ensure the technical integrity of product implementation and delivery to meet IFEC business objectives. This role is focused on ensuring the internal developments and architectures are in line with the company's strategic goals, directives, and capabilities. This person will ensure that the team's design decisions do not stray from the prime objectives of the internal organization. While this will be accomplished in collaboration with the certification engineering and OEM guidelines, this role is not related to the FAA ODA designation, and is not the certification engineer.
Responsibilities:
Own approval of product specification and system requirements definition platform(s). Will collaborate with engineering, marketing, supply chain, and other key stakeholders in defining the system(s)
Derive and define system level requirements based on forward looking CX growth requirements. This includes specification of integration, verification, and validation requirements
Balance cost, performance, and complexity in ensuring system is affordable and feasible while meeting TTM and CX goals
Ensure next generation system is scalable and meets performance, reliability, and life cycle cost objectives
Drive vendor selection and work with 3rd part suppliers to ensure products meet system requirements
Define system level technology roadmap(s) consistent with the company's strategic goals and direction
Ensure design-to-cost metrics are in-line with overall system targets
Serve as the subject matter expert on relevant technologies and industry trends
Attend and actively participate (present) at relevant industry conferences, representing DAL as a leader in the field
Lead the team in generating predictive experience analytics approach/platform in support of proactive maintenance

Qualifications:

Master's degree in Engineering required, MBA preferred
10+ years of experience leading complex technical projects and/or engineering teams is required
5+ years of experience with connectivity systems, including Satcom and WiFi is required. Experience in secure networking strongly preferred.
Must have expert level competency in systems and platforms architecture as well as demonstrated expertise in all of the following areas:
Experience with strategy development including defining technology roadmaps.
Recognized industry expertise and contemporary knowledge of satellite technology, RF network architecture, embedded software and avionics hardware development.
IFEC development experience with Ku, Ka, L-Band and ATG technologies desired good
Familiar with FAA qualification and certification guidelines
Experience managing teams in a matrix organization, leading through large scale and/or enterprise-wide initiatives
Experience with aircraft engineering and certification of IFEC systems
Aviation satellite connectivity and network operations, connectivity hardware/software, and satcom development integration and support
Ability to influence technical direction at the department level and across multiple projects or technology areas
