Pilot Manager

Responsible to:    NP FO Flight Operations Director 


Role Summary

The Pilot Manager is responsible to the NP FO for day-to-day management of pilots. The role is to manage, develop, motivate and where necessary enact the company HR procedures, with the aim of the B737 and ATR pilots achieving departmental objectives to provide a world class customer service.



  • Work Along HR with all Recruitment processes and onboarding of new Pilots 

  • Assist with the administration of the crew changes, using company HR Systems and processes.

  • Check, process and authorise all expenses from Crew

  • Provide support to the Operations Control Centre with Crewing of Aircraft

  • Assist in the identification of pilot resources including numbers of pilots and experience profiles.

  • Monitor performance of all Pilots, managing behaviors and expectations

  • Ensure timely monitoring of attendance, working alongside Payroll to ensure all Sickness documentation is uploaded in the adequate times.

  • Advise Pilots when needed on all leave, including paternity, urgent family leave and compassionate.

  • Assist with the leave bid and allocation process for flight crew

  • Work alongside HR for all Disciplinary and Grievance Hearings and outcomes.

  • To co-ordinate Management of Change Projects as directed by the Flight Operations Director

  • Ensure all departmental health, safety and environmental guidelines are followed by all staff.

  • Represent the company with BALPA

  • Contribute to the Emergency Response Team with regards field representation and pilot management

  • Maintain a consistent, positive, relevant and timely communication flow from the Flight Crew Management team to the Flight Crew 

  • Become an advocate for Flight Crew and drive a customer focus on all activity

  • Manage training records for all Flight Ops nonflying staff and ensure timely programming of required training.

  • Manage crew uniform.

Academic/Educational Requirements

  • People Management Qualification would be advantageous 

Required Skills/Experience/knowledge:

  • 5 years previous airline experience is required

  • Experience within a Management role is preferable 

  • Good knowledge of the use of software packages like MS Word, Excel essential.

  • Ability to learn to use new software platforms.

  • Ability to work within procedures is essential

  • Ability to define procedures

  • Proven ability to work under pressure and manage difficult conversations

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication skills (both written & verbal) 

  • Proven problem solving & planning skills

  • Proven ability to develop and progress processes and procedures

  • Live within 90 minutes of EMA

  • Possess the ability to operate outside the normal scope of pilot roles

Terms and Conditions

Hybrid working but attendance at EMA once per week or as required by the job requirements.
