Operations Manager, Maintenance

Position Summary

The Operations Manager, Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all aircraft maintenance related service support for Thrive Aviation. This position will require setting up the repair station operation and oversight of the maintenance team in its initial growth phase. 

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for the maintenance department and all technical personnel. 
• Oversight of part 145 repair station day-to-day operations.
• Ensures and monitors the quality of work performed by all maintenance employees. 
• Provides maintenance indoctrination and recurrent training as required.
• Understands and plans for upcoming regulatory mandates to maintain aircraft status and support upcoming missions.
• Establishes and maintains records as required by FARs, manufacturers, and company policy.
• Assists in developing capital and operating budgets.
• Ensures all aircraft maintenance is scheduled and completed timely and efficiently.
• Establishes maintenance safety rules and procedures.
• Monitors and maintains the budget for manpower requirements. 
• Review applications, interviews candidates, and approves the hiring of technicians and support staff as needed.
• Oversight of scheduling and planning of maintenance for managed and non-managed aircraft.
• Reviews and approves maintenance related invoices from applicable vendors.
• Provides feedback, guidance, and management to assigned group(s) of employees.
• Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, including but not limited to the FAA, OSHA, and EHS.
• Maintains special tools and certifications for calibration of such tools and ensuring all precision tools and test equipment are calibrated at regular intervals as established by the manufacturer.
• Carries out assigned work in an expeditious manner, exercising sound judgement in executing each work project.
• Other duties as assigned by leadership.
• May delegate all duties assigned; however, such delegation does not relieve overall responsibility.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform required duties. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: 

• Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to three (3) hours per day and sit for up to five (5) hours per day.
• May be required to lift up-to 30 lbs. to the height of 4 feet and up to 20 lbs. to a height of 7 feet.
• May be required to carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• On occasion, must be able to lift up-to 80 pounds.
• Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp, or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
• Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.

• Advanced knowledge of aircraft common and special tools and test equipment, aircraft technical orders/job guides/publications and schematic diagrams, drawings, charts and technical publications, aircraft engine, landing gear, and flight control systems
• Must possess and maintain a current and valid US-issued FAA A&P Certificate.
• Some travel may be required.

Experience & Qualifications

The most successful candidate in the position will meet most, if not all, of the following criteria.

• Active A&P Certificate required.
• 5+ years of Supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in aviation management or related field; OR
• 5-7 years of Corporate Aircraft Maintenance and inspection experience.
• 5+ years of MRO management experience preferred.
• Expert level knowledge of FAA regulations as it pertains to aircraft maintenance.
• Advanced skills and knowledge of aircraft parts management.
• Strong skills with Microsoft Office and applicable suite of products.
• Previous experience scaling, growing, and maintaining a MRO.
• Experience in developing plans for growth and profitability.
• Experience in project planning and pipeline management.
• Ability to establish sound business relationships with OEMs.
• Assist with Thrive Aviation strategic planning and execution.
• Fluency and knowledge of applicable industry specific-software tools, including maintenance tools such as CORRIDOR.
