Cobham Aviation Services are recruiting for an Obsolescence Manager (Airworthiness) to be responsible for ensuring the continuous availability of component spares and for identifying alternative solutions/suppliers where necessary to ensure the on-going provision of approved items. This will be largely focussed around our fixed wing fleet of aircraft.

It is essential that you take a proactive approach to your work and are able to conceive and apply a range of solutions to complex problems. You will also need excellent interpersonal skills, a customer-centric approach and the ability to effectively prioritise and manage your workload.

The position is an individual specialist role with no direct reports. It reports into the CAMO Manager and is a key role within the CAMO team.

This position is based at our Bournemouth International Airport site and requires minimal travel:

As an Obsolescence Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Background as an Airworthiness Engineer/ Manager with a demonstrable focus on Obsolescence.
  • Previous experience in a supply chain with aviation technical background

  • Previous experience in EASA Part M, Part 145 and Part 21 G & J environments

  • Demonstrable experience in obsolescence management working with a design office on modifications, as well as with procurement on engaging suppliers.

As an Obsolescence Manager your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Identifying and managing all known obsolescence projects by engaging with all organisation stakeholders

  • Preparing and presenting progress reports to the Airworthiness Review Board

  • Liaising directly with principal OEMs on current and anticipated obsolescence issues

  • Analysing aircraft systems and components reliability data to mitigate risks when parts, spares, equipment, skills are likely to become obsolete

  • Working with Part 21J Design Organisations to support replacement solutions

  • Identification of PMA parts
  • Preparing and presenting business cases for obsolescence projects, including 'lifetime buys'

  • Recommend cost effective solutions and repair strategies to minimise costs and detrimental impact to operations

  • Developing an obsolescence network to understand best practice and utilise business opportunities

  • Identifying alternative sources of supply for scarce components
  • Maintaining the obsolescence database on components, detailing forward strategy and level of risk

  • Assessing items for potential obsolescence over contractual life
  • Regularly reviewing industry practices for obsolescence management and initiating improvements when necessary

  • Meeting and where necessary negotiating with OEMs to establish obsolescence solutions
