Purpose Job Summary
Inspects aircraft engine and accessory parts and other metal parts or fixtures using NDT (non-destructive testing) methods such as magnetic particle, fluorescent or dye penetrants, x-ray, eddy current and/or ultrasonic equipment and techniques as required in the process of returning to service any engine for which the Repair Station is rated, following all health and safety practices and requirements.

Essential Functions

* Inspect aircraft and engine parts, and other magnetic materials, using magnaflux equipment on different types of metal parts, including aluminum, magnesium, brass, stainless steel, and other non-magnetic materials using fluorescent or dye-penetrant methods.
* Perform x-ray inspections of parts and metal fixtures including set up of x-ray machine for specific tests, handling plates and developing while maintaining safety precautions.
* Perform ultrasonic and/or eddy current tests on parts and metal fixtures by setting up equipment for specific tests, taking readings, and recording data according to procedures.
* Sets up and calibrate equipment, prepare components for NDT inspection fully utilizing available equipment and processes including ensuring all equipment is in full working order by carrying out daily checks.
* May train and guide other NDT employees either as co-worker mentoring or instructing lower classifications.
* May evaluate published technical data for timely and accurate applicability to NDT inspection procedures and develops/revises procedures as necessary to ensure reliable, quality products.
* Accept parts as repairable or serviceable and rejects and tags parts, which do not conform to standards.
* Maintain both electronic and hard-copy records and data as necessary.
* Maintain, in a serviceable and properly calibrated condition, all the precision measuring tools, measuring fixtures and test equipment required to perform the work of the Repair Station
* Use proper procedures for the handling, transporting, and storage of engine parts and accessories.

Qualifications

Experience

* Minimum twelve to eighteen (12-18) months NDT inspection and evaluation experience with aircraft powerplants for FAA certification OR be powerplant certified.
* Must hold at least a Level II NDT certifications.
* Eddy current (EC) certification preferred.

Qualifications

Required

* Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Quality assurance, Aerospace, Quality Control/inspection, similar discipline, OR equivalent work experience and training obtained from governmental or vocational training school programs.
* Must be able to read, interpret and understand technical manuals, work specifications, service bulletins and written work instructions, set up and calibrate equipment, prepare components for NDT inspection fully utilizing available equipment and processes.
* Must be able to speak, read, and write in the English language.

Desired

Previous experience in the aerospace field on engines such as but not limited to Pratt and Whitney PW100, Honeywell TFE731, Honeywell ALF502, and Honeywell GTCP 36 APU preferred, but not required.

Physical Demands

* Sedentary Work: exerting up to (25-50) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
* Work involves walking, sitting, driving or standing for brief periods of time.
* Vision: Near clarity of vision is required for close-up engine and chart/document analysis. NDI Inspectors must pass a Jaeger vision chart test at no less than twelve inches, or equivalent with one eye, either natural or corrected and be able to distinguish and differentiate between the colors used in the method for which certification is sought.
* Reaching: extending hands and arms in any direction.
* Handling: seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hand(s).
* Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
* Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.

Work Environment

* Engine shop and shop office environments, including: hoists, heavy parts, chemicals and fluids with use of precision instruments, stringent housekeeping and work area safety regulations and practices to observe and maintain.
* Environment may include brief periods of elevated noise exposure.
* May have occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
