Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking a Mechanical Engineer IV – Battery Packaging Specialist to support our electrical energy storage strategy for cutting-edge platform electrification. Qualified applicants must be up to the challenges of increasing power and voltage levels in aerospace & defense applications.

This position is key to our Power & Sensing Engineering Team in Lynnwood, WA.

Position Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer – Battery Packaging Specialist will add expertise to address technical challenges (high voltage, density, capacity and fault tolerance) of integrated batteries, which consist of series-parallel connected cells/capacitors packaged with management electronics.

The Mechanical Engineer – Battery Packaging Specialist is a top contributor who needs little to no supervision and uses originality, ingenuity and experience to perform engineering duties in researching, planning, designing, and developing products for use in the Aerospace or Electronics marketplace. The Senior Mechanical Engineer works within a collaborative Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment while responsible for multiple independent tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

* Deliver integrated battery designs, from initial concept to production

* Analyze design requirements and objectives, define optimum design criteria and approach, design system or component elements

* Direct development testing on new or modified designs

* Mentor other engineers in the area of expertise

* Work effectively with all functional groups to achieve product performance and cost targets.

* Build quality and manufacturability into the design.

* Define/understand/comply with company and regulatory guidelines to assure a safe operating environment.

* Support continuous process improvement activities including Kaizen and 5S practices to ensure an organized and efficient working environment, and personal development.

* Demonstrate proficiency with verbal and written English for technical reports, presentations, analyses, or other communications at the appropriate level throughout the organization.

* Understand, decompose, and define product and process requirements to support product development, sustaining and R&D.

* Plan, estimate, prioritize, and manage work activities to support meeting project schedules and budgets. Utilize experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

* Produce thorough and accurate design and development work of suitable complexity that meets all customer specifications and company requirements for schedule, cost, producibility, quality, and reliability.

* Utilize proficient problem solving processes, documentation, tools and analyses to quickly and effectively identify root cause and corrective actions to technical challenges and/or issues in support of product development and product sustaining assignments.

* Generate and review product development documentation, including proposals, technical reports, procedures, correspondence, etc. necessary to satisfy customer and program requirements.

* Self-directed and motivated while working and communicating effectively within a team environment that consists of several engineering, operations, quality, and business disciplines.

* Provide support of IPT activities in collaboration with other technical, operations, quality, and business disciplines.

* Generate models and conduct analyses in compliance with customer requirements and appropriate agencies.

* Perform design experiments and evaluate test results to validate analysis.

* Generate and review documentation related to product development and prepare technical reports and documentation necessary to satisfy customer and program requirements, including proposals, procedures, reports, correspondence, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline. Master’s Degree or PhD is a plus.

Experience:

* Eight (8) or more years of relevant work experience in a highly regulated environment. Automotive or Aerospace Industry desired.

* Experience with electronics packaging of power cells

Knowledge , Skills & Abilities :

* Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Principles, including mechanics of materials, shock, vibration, heat transfer, and dimensional tolerance analysis

* Proficiency with mechanical 3D modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor, and familiarity with numerical analysis software

Employment Eligibility Requirement:

* Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and not require Visa sponsorship to be eligible. We are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) as a US Department of Defense contractor.

Working Conditions:

* Standard office environment

* May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes

* May require occasional travel domestically and internationally (less than 10%)
