JOB PURPOSE

 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Naval Force (RSNF) ships and train RSNF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their ships, equipment and weapons.  For such maintenance training, this role is responsible for the training and mentoring activities in respect to the Royal Saudi Naval Force (RSNF) employees and is responsible to the Departmental Director, for the management and coordination of all Al Jawf Class, Mine Hunter, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Electrical issues within the RSNF Engineering Authority and wider liaison with other RSNF departments and authorities. They will also provide expertise to the RSNF in areas of Marine Engineering ship design, modification and engineering changes as well as conducting in depth engineering analysis of defects/deficiencies.

 
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • The Marine Engineer: Mechanical /Electrical will need to be SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel), providing specialist Mine Hunter Marine Engineering expertise to the Mine hunter Engineering Officer and Departmental Director. 

  • They will be required to assess all proposed Engineering Changes, Modifications, Technical Instructions and related acceptance activities associated with the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Systems, on board the Al Jawf Class and its shore side supporting facilities, including the Specialised Shore Side Workshops.

  • Conduct in depth analysis of on board systems, equipment failures or deficiencies to determine cause and make recommendations for corrective measures, modification to maintenance routines or changes in operating procedures.

  • Assist with the production of RSNF Requirements and Specifications for future modifications, review and propose amendments to the subsequent Work Package from the contractor.

  • Assess all proposed design changes and modification to the Al Jawf Class Mine Hunter and make recommendations to the RSNF regarding implementation.

  • Work with the RSNF Naval Engineer (Mechanical Electrical) in providing Mine Hunter Marine Engineering advice more widely within the RSNF and liaison with its Contractors who provide various support services.  Deputise in his absence.

  • Work with the Mine Hunter Maintenance Manager and Support Engineer, by providing Technical input to Maintenance Schemes, Hand Book updates and Equipment Configuration Changes.

  • Maintain a close liaison with the Prime Contractor and its associated equipment / system engineers, UK MoD, Original Equipment Manufacturers and Civilian Agencies.

  • Oversee acceptance and commissioning of equipment / systems as required.

  • Compile Engineering Briefs for RSNF Officers.

  • Lead level 4 Technical Meetings and contribute to level 3 Technical Meetings as a SME. Attend other meetings and liaise with other Directorates of the RSNF, as required.

  • Comply with all RSNF directives safety procedures and maintain confidentiality of RSNF and Hunter Project data at all times.

 
RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION
Essential
  • Educated to BTEC National Certificate level or Higher National Certificate (or equivalent) in a Marine Engineering System related discipline.

  • In depth knowledge of Marine Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Systems.

  • Mine Hunter Engineering experience.
  • Experience in various stages of the Engineering Design process and equipment Life Cycle Management.

  • Experience of Engineering Safety and Workplace Health & Safety.

  • Hold a clearance to handle UK confidential material.

  • Ability to read and write English with the ability to understand technical documentation and follow both written and oral direction in the English language.

  • Be fully proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Hold a full driving licence. 
Desirable
  • Educated to degree level in Engineering or equivalent professional engineering qualification or a combination of training and experience which provides an equivalent educational standard.

  • Registered with a National Engineering Council and membership of a recognised Engineering Institution.

  • Knowledge of Single Role Mine Hunter operations.

  • Knowledge of ITAR.
