Job Description

Summary:

The Heat Treatment Department of Chromalloy Castings Tampa processes superalloy castings through various thermal cycles to produce specified microstructural and mechanical characteristics in the metal components.  Like other process areas of the facility, the area is monitored by a manufacturing engineer, also referred to as a “process owner”, who is responsible for the engineering of the area.  The process owner defines the working parameters, techniques and equipment / tools to use for each component to be processed through the operations of that department.  Therefore, the process owner is not only responsible for the actual processing of the component but also the documentation of the procedures, standards and usage as associated with the process.

A manufacturing engineer, or process owner, identifies as the engineering expert of the area and as such is expected to be a self-starter and contact point of the manufacturing area.  The process owner is expected to provide solutions as are identified as part of daily work and also provide continuous improvement in the area especially as it relates to safety, throughput and scrap reduction.  This position reports to the manufacturing engineering manager, who is responsible for all manufacturing processing areas of the Tampa facility. A manufacturing engineer is a salaried, full time position with typical full time benefits.

Essential Duties:

  • Utilizes process knowledge, basic engineering principles, previous experience, and creativity as necessary to develop processes that result in the production of quality castings that conform to customer specifications and delivery deadlines.
  • Review customer specifications and blueprints to determine the procedures, testing, and routing sequences required to meet the metallurgical part requirements to continue the manufacturing process.
  • Participate in and perform hands-on troubleshooting, calibrations, maintenance (including preventative maintenance) and repair of the heat treatment furnaces and related equipment.
  • Develop and maintain shop instruction templates & general standard procedures.
  • Request quotes for equipment and supplies with followup requisition requests.
  • Work towards continuous improvement in the heat treat area such as sourcing new equipment and fixtures, implementing process improvements, and recommending upgrades.
  • Perform & evaluate pyrometry surveys.

The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
