Overview

Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design, manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products, seeks a Manager for a full-time position in the Reliability, System Safety and Specialty Engineering (RSSSE) discipline in Canoga Park, California.

This RSSSE position includes managing approximately 7 talented and motivated employees, providing leadership support, and being accountable for the technical engineering management of AR space and defense programs that require the design, development, verification, qualification, and production of liquid rocket engines, solid rocket motors, in-space thrusters, divert and attitude control systems, missiles, and other technologies.

This position may be filled at the level posted or at the next higher level.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

This position reports to the Director, RSSSE at Aerojet Rocketdyne. The successful candidate will direct, coordinate, and review the work of staff engineers; estimate personnel needs; and schedule and assign work to meet completion dates and company financial goals. The successful candidate will also support programs as a reliability and system safety expert and assist with improving RSSSE procedures and standard work.

10% - Develop and implement RSSSE procedures, work instructions, guidelines, and methods. Act as a liaison between RSSSE and programs, other engineering disciplines, and other organizations.

10% - Provide leadership for the design, development and implementation of product and process improvement and affordability activities. Routine reporting and communication with RSSSE director and peer RSSSE engineering managers is also expected.

15% - Perform functional management responsibilities, including program staffing, employee skill and career development, performance evaluations, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work products.

65% - Provide leadership and direct technical support of AR products and services for both development and operational / production programs.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline and a minimum of 9 years progressive experience. Master’s degree desired. Strong technical and team-working skills required. Previous lead engineer or management experience is a plus. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential.

The candidate should have demonstrated skills in Reliability Engineering and System Safety Engineering. Experience with Testability and Mass Properties is a plus.

US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
