This position supports the Aerojet Rocketdyne’s Avionics Engineering organization and reports to the Director of Avionics Integration and Test. The position requires the candidate to perform an array of process and technical related managerial duties in support of a variety of Avionics product test support projects. This position will be responsible to provide accurate, timely and cost-effective technical support for the development, fabrication, testing and delivery of AR Avionics products including engine controllers and EP products. This position also requires coordination with the entire AR Avionics management team to ensure that all AR programs and initiatives are successful. The programs being supported include programs at Huntsville site, but interactions with other disciplines and programs from across the enterprise may be required.

The candidate will operate from the Huntsville, AL engineering office.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

55% - Primary responsibilities are the management of Avionics Test Engineering process and the leadership of the Avionics Test Engineering staff. Provide supervision and leadership on the definition, maintenance and implementation of the Avionics Test Engineering process. Partner with Program Managers, Chief Engineers, Integrated Product Team Leaders and Avionics Test Engineering Team to successfully manage the technical aspects of test engineering in support of program cost, schedule, and technical requirements.

10% - Plan the overhead budget requirements for the process and provide input to the financial planning organization. Track and meet all financial goals.

10% - Support program design, technical reviews, failure analysis and anomaly investigation related to Avionics Test Engineering support.

10% - Provide employee mentoring and career development opportunities to ensure a dedicated workforce is always ready and available to satisfy the test equipment design needs across a variety of company programs.

10% - Develop Avionics Test Engineering process improvements, tools and training as needed to streamline Enterprise design/test costs for programs while also reinforcing design to cost and re-use when possible.

5% - Lead or support in capture of new business; contribute to proposal development.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics or Aerospace Engineering (or other related engineering/scientific discipline) and at least nine years of design related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Must be a self-starter, able to perform effective conflict resolution, mentor and motivate employees to successfully meet program cost, schedule and technical goals.

* Demonstrated understanding of DoD/NASA engineering processes, materials, analysis and manufacturing required.
* Must possess strong technical writing and effective presentation skills.
* Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%.
* Previous hands-on electrical test equipment design experience and knowledge of test engineering processes are strongly preferred.
* Experience with Rocket Engines and Space Rated Avionics components and systems are a plus.
* Formal project management experience preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
