Our Crawley, West Sussex based aerospace client is seeking a Logistics Assistant to be responsible for the import and exports of worldwide shipments. Activities are undertaken with strict compliance to all export and other shipping regulations.

 

Main responsibilities:
  • Arranging import and export shipments via Air freight, Sea freight & Road freight
  • Raising Chamber of Commerce/customs documentation including legalisation of documents, managing online forms for the efficient, cost effective and lawful execution of all import/export activities.
  • Liaising with Freight Forwarders and Couriers to make Logistic bookings, review costs and services for freight forwarders and approval of freight invoices supplied by the carriers
  • Ensure correct clearance information is provided to any agents handling company imports with customs
  • Maintain and share with colleagues as appropriate, personal knowledge of all relevant import/export law and procedures; tariffs and duties; licenses and restrictions
  • Work to tight deadlines, respond to internal & external client priorities and work schedules
  • Ensure re-export of products are processed in compliance with the rules and regulations depending on reason of export, i.e. repair, FOC warranty, exhibition
  • Liaising with Head/Regional offices in Europe, South and North America, and the Far East
  • Communicate with related authorities, internal & external customers and suppliers, in all relevant territories and countries, as necessary to ensure efficient, positive and lawful relations, support and activities
  • Handling Hazardous Export shipments
  • Tracking and tracing consignments through to arrival
  • Liaising with internal and external customers to resolve any shipping issues which may arise
  • Clear understanding of current INCOTERMS
  • Packing of consignments, which includes palletising consignments
  • Loading and offloading collection/delivery vehicles, and maintain records accordingly
  • Receiving goods into the company, and closing out P/O’s on in-house system
  • Maintain records of all logistics operations onto in-house database
  • Approve supplier invoices and challenge any inaccuracies
  • Represent the Logistics Manager in their absence as required
 

Ideal candidate profile
  • Extensive export compliance experience with the UK and EU regulations and knowledge of US export controls within an international context
  • Up to date knowledge of ATA Carnet, applying for Certificates of Origin, applying for export licenses, EUR1 Forms and CCVO’s
  • Excellent IT skills, ideally with experience of internal systems and tools including MS Office, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and a high level of MS Excel experience, plus if possible, Google mail, sheets & documents, but training will be provided.
  • Good task/time management skills will be required, as are self-motivation skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines with the ability to prioritise
  • Strong communication skills required internally and across departments
  • Proven record of achievement and ability with emphasis on air freight processes, customer services, administration and financial awareness
  • Customer service and communication skills are required
  • Proven organisational skills & high attention to details
  • Must have hands on approach and be fit to undertake heavy warehouse work on occasion
  • Team player
 

Additional Information:

Previous freight forwarding / shipping experience is essential for this role
  • Candidates must already hold the right to live and work in the UK prior to application
  • Candidates must be fit to undertake occasional heavy packing duties in the warehouse
  • Salary:  £29,000
  • Mon- Fri. office hours
