Job ID: 468005BR Date posted: Jan. 23, City: Sunnyvale State: CaliforniaProgram: OPL

Description:The Optical Payload Center of Excellence at Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an intermediate opto-mechanical/precision mechanism engineer to support high energy laser (HEL) programs. Prior HEL experience is preferred, but the position is open to those with applicable experience/expertise and a keen interest in directed energy systems. Responsibilities of this technical role include design, specification, and procurement support for optical bench assemblies, optical mounts and fixtures, mechanical ground support equipment, alignment fixtures, and a range of opto-mechanical assets to be used in the development, test, and manufacture of high energy laser systems.
This position calls for an individual contributor (IC) who will work under the supervision of senior engineers, and initially support the integration and test phase of our programs, focusing on ground support and test equipment design and integration. You will initially work as an individual contributor with the ability to take on more sophisticated opto-mechanical efforts.
You will be joining a talented and experienced team of high energy beam control experts at Lockheed Martin Space, the makers of the strategic, megawatt-class Airborne Laser Beam Control System and more recently, the maker of ATHENA (check it out on the web), a transportable prototype laser weapon of tactical range that successfully shot down 5 out of 5 unmanned aerial vehicles at White Sands, NM.
