Description

Reporting to the Director of Safety, the incumbent will be responsible for the following

* Manage all aspects of IATA operational safety programs;
* Liaise with key industry stakeholders including the IATA Safety Group, IATA Task Forces, ICAO, member airlines and the OEM's;
* Manage safety research and analysis activity to identify and prioritize safety risks, including the development of SPI's;
* Help define and promote IATA's safety requirements/policies with Governments, Aviation Safety Groups and International Organizations;
* Identify industry best practices to help establish operational requirements and policies within the framework of IATA's global safety and flight operations policy;
* Directly support the creation of new industry initiatives to enhance safety and efficiency;
* Act as key IATA representative/speaker at relevant industry meetings;
* Manage the associated budgets for Operational Safety (operational and project related) according to budget targets;
* Liaison with IATA regions departments including, but not limited to, Flight Operations, Ground Operations, Security, etc; Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

* Manage operational safety programs (Ground/Cargo Safety, Flight Safety, Cabin Safety, Maintenance and Engineering Safety, Emergency Response Programs, etc) and associated industry task forces;
* These operational safety programs cover the entire scope of safety issues in the commercial aviation industry, ranging from runway safety, loss of control, Air Traffic Control hazards, to aircraft ground damage;
* Lead the operational safety team in analysis of safety issues and development of mitigative strategies, including relevant industry workshops and guidance materials;
* Support the IATA Safety Group (SG) and all SG safety activities;
* Support the Director of Safety in managing the Accident Investigation Support Program;
* Manage the Accident Classification Technical Group and the content and production of the IATA Safety Report;
* Represent IATA Safety at ICAO and industry safety events and conferences;
* Coordinate with all internal IATA Safety and Flight Operations departments in coordinating operational safety issues;
* Administer associated safety department budgets.

Qualifications and Skills

* Leadership proficiency to motivate and encourage people in a positive manner to keep the team moving toward successful completion of identified initiatives ;
* Minimum of 10 years' operational experience in air carrier operations ;
* Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience in flight operations/flight safety department at an air carrier;
* Experience in air carrier Safety Management Systems, safety risk management, with extensive knowledge and experience in safety research and analysis;
* Minimum of 5,000 hours of pilot time in jet aircraft.
* Experience as a captain in airline operations highly desirable;
* University degree in management, aviation or related field will be an advantage;
* International industry level experience in operational/safety committee work;
* Training in accident investigation and safety management systems from a recognized organization/university;
* Demonstrate awareness of IATA's vision, mission and values;
* Ability to develop, communicate and monitor progress against a detailed project plan utilizing project management methodology;
* Demonstrated organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills;
* Proven ability to present simple and/or complex issues clearly, credibly and effectively by using a communication style appropriate to the situation;
* Good understanding of EASA, FAA and ICAO Regulatory processes;
* Self-confident, highly motivated, energetic, initiative skills, a team player and proficiency in research, report writing and creating presentations;
* Good knowledge of MS Office and IT related matters, including presentational software;
* Fluency in written and spoken English;
* Past experience advocating change with a complex safety critical environment would be an advantage;
* Knowledge of other languages will be an asset.
