Our client, a global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices, is currently seeking a Fitter to join their team at their facility in Stansted. 

Job Purpose
  • To carry out testing, repair and overhaul of fire extinguisher with in the FX department.
  • To undertake hydrostatic testing of cylinders. (up to 3000 PSI)
  • This will include inspecting / testing components, assembling (including welding), leak checking cylinders prior to charging and then filling them with serviceable Halon

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Disassemble of fire extinguisher bottles (including safe retrieval of dirty halon)
  • Replace standard spares as part of the overhaul process
  • Inspect individual parts and replace defective items.
  • Thorough clean of components
  • Hydrostatic testing of cylinders in accordance with Department of Transport requirements
  • Re-assembly of the fire extinguisher components
  • Charge Fire extinguishers with clean serviceable halon

Qualifications:
  • Numerate and literate – minimum GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English
  • Training in charging and overhaul of cylinders, fire extinguishers, oxygen or halon (highly desirable)
Experience:
  • Previous experience of working with compressed gas systems, charging cylinders and overhauling components (highly desirable)
  • Previous experience of working with Halon systems, charging bottles and overhauling components (highly desirable)
  • Previous experience of working in an engineering/workshop environment (highly desirable)
Prior experience working of interpreting and following in detail compliance manuals (essential)
