Description:This position is for the THAAD Interceptor Production Structures Engineering Associate Manager.
Position reports to the SSC Structures & Thermal Products Senior Manager and is deployed to the THAAD Interceptor Production Mechanical Engineering Manager in Sunnyvale.This role includes both personnel management and technical leadership responsibilities which supports both the deployed program and the SSC functional organization. The candidate will assume leadership responsibilities and technical oversight of the missile structures design team.
Lead a mechanical engineering team of 7-10 engineers in supporting THAAD Interceptor (Missile) Production with specific focus on Missile Structures elements. Perform all aspects of team leadership, including cost, schedule, technical, risk and opportunity management and interfacing closely with customer counterparts. Responsible for planning, executing and reporting on issue investigation, closure and design change efforts. Ensure SSC’s standard technical processes and tools, best practices, and training are available and properly implemented on the program. Accountable for timely resolution of production issues and for on-time and on-cost delivery of production-driven design changes (i.e., corrective actions and producibility improvements). Responsible for providing engineering support services to multiple manufacturing facilities (both LM and subcontractor) in the United States.
Position may be a Control Account Manager or CAM Delegate with responsibility for proposal, customer negotiation and execution of cost and schedule baselines for assigned control accounts.
Responsible for managing all staffing needs including surge resource management, hiring, career planning and counseling, training, critical skills management, mentoring and rewards/recognition.
Requires occasional domestic travel to LM, Army and Subcontractor facilities.
*Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent degree and/or experience.
*Understanding of missile, launch vehicle, spacecraft and/or aircraft structure design
*Ability to lead, organize and motivate a group of engineering personnel
*Proficient with Creo MCAD and ASME Y14.5 drafting standards (or equivalent)
*Experience working with other disciplines including production, Manufacturing, Test, Analysis, Electronics, etc. to drive hardware design and production activities through delivery
*Experience as a Certified Principal Engineer (CPE) or equivalent
*Experience supporting production of missile, spacecraft or aircraft hardware
*Familiarity with configuration control and quality control tools and systems (e.g. EPDM, Q-notes, VRICs)
*Experience working closely with internal/external subcontractors
*Experience in Risk and Opportunity Management
*Control Account Management (CAM) or equivalent experience
*Demonstrated ability to plan, propose and manage budgets and schedules
*Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain and leverage effective Customer, Program and Central Engineering relationships
*Hands-on hardware experience
*Demonstrated commitment to the development and deployment of productivity/performance improvements and leveraging new technologies
*Demonstrated commitment to the development of others
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical and programmatic issues to subordinates, peers, management and customers.
