SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for understanding the technical requirements of composite details and assemblies manufactured at AAR Composites, synthesizing comprehensive production lifecycle processes, and communicating this knowledge to the production personnel via detailed work instructions and tool definitions. This engineering position will require strong practical knowledge of OEM/Tier 1 level manufacturing principles and practices for fabrication of composite assemblies with fixed wing and rotorcraft end use.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Acts as a liaison between the Customer, Internal Design group, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production personnel.

* Read and comprehend OEM and Tier 1 Process specifications and develop sound manufacturing processing plan compliant to AS9100, Nadcap, and Customer OEM processing and quality requirements.

* Create BOM and manufacturing routers within Oracle MRP.

* Establish the design and performance requirements for layup molds & assembly fixtures and bring them to full realization in the shop or communicate the requirements to a tooling supplier.

* Support bids and proposals activity requiring the review of specifications and estimation of recurring labor estimates.

* Problem solving and continuous process improvement and ability to perform hands-on troubleshooting of processes with technicians.

* Act as engineering’s MRB member. Develop composite repair requirements for parts and tools depending on MRB approval level.

* Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ability to supervise contract engineering personnel on occasion. Ability to train/instruct supervisors or technicians on processes.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate must be US Citizen and be able to work to ITAR and OPSEC requirements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

* Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related science or technical discipline.

* Minimum of five years of experience in composite fabrication, metallic materials, manufacturing methods/processes, preferably with an OEM or Tier 1 experience in the aircraft manufacturing industry.

* Tooling/fixtures design and/or fabrication experience.

* Practical experience in the hand layup, autoclave/oven cure and trim/assembly of carbon, Kevlar®, and fiberglass fabrics prepregs.

* Proficiency with computer based applications; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), Oracle/SAP MRP, Dassault CATIA or Solidworks 3D modeling and surfacing CAD experience preferred. Vistagy FiberSim or CATIA CPD composite design software experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and managers. Ability to convey a professional and positive image to guests and customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of mathmatics with analytic geometry in solving technical issues.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
