POSITION INFORMATION

Role Summary
The Senior Engineer makes decisions with defined scope related to repairs on aircraft using specifications from manufacturer(s), the company, and regulations. This Senior Engineer identifies and assists on change to issues related to task cards, manuals, and engineering directives used by mechanics during the repair of the aircraft.

Scope & Complexity
This individual contributor role supports engineering activities for Alaska Airlines (AS). This is a leadership role for ongoing projects to maintain the fleet, including the cabin investment project, Automatic Dependent Surveillance- Broadcast project, and other component designs that impact the reliability of components and reduction of block turn backs.

Key Duties

*

Utilizes all available information (e.g., ASA operational data, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) engineering data, other operators? shared information, etc.) to continually improve the safe and efficient operation of the installed Avionics Systems.

*

Manages and maintains all OEM recommendations (e.g., Service Bulletins (SB), Service Letters (SL), etc.) for priority incorporation into the fleet.

*

Authors engineering control (EC) documents (e.g., engineering orders, engineering authorizations, fleet campaigns, etc.) to direct the required incorporation of modifications, improvements, and disposition of line troubleshooting and shop requests.

*

Leads as required cross-divisional team(s) composed of Records, Planning, Line Maintenance, Avionics shop, Quality Control (QC), Flight Ops, Technical Pubs, etc. to ensure released EC documents are implemented efficiently.

*

Reviews and edits the engine build specification, delineating the required maintenance to be accomplished at designated vendor shop overhaul facilities.

*

Reviews all applicable Federal Air Regulations (FARs) and Airworthiness Directives (AD), and promptly generates documentation for 100% compliance.

*

Provides Maintenance Control and Engineering Technical Services personnel with troubleshooting assistance for resolution of chronic aircraft (Avionics) issues resulting in a prompt return to service.

*

Authors AS-specific engineering data for inclusion into the required Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICAs) for configuration control and required maintenance actions.

*

Presents reliability data reviews, including root cause determination and proposed maintenance program improvements.

*

Fully engages and participates in OEM technical conferences and working group sessions to ensure the most recent engineering data is utilized in managing AS's fleet.

*

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Skills & Education
Required

*

A minimum of 10 years of Avionics engineering (e.g., airline, shop, OEM) with detailed on-wing operational experience.

*

A Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in engineering (preferably electrical), or a related discipline.

*

In-depth understanding of the Avionics Systems of the aircraft.

*

Knowledge of FAA regulations and oversight functions (for both aircraft operating airworthiness certificates).

*

Excellent communication skills: verbal (both informal working teams and formal executive presentations), and in clear, concisely written documents

*

Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with self-directed decision making confidence and limited guidance in a fast-paced environment. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

*

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

*

Minimum age of 18.

*

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

*

10 years of airline and/or manufacturer Powerplant engineering experience (preference: CFM56 engine).

*

Understanding of gas turbine fundamental operating principles (e.g., aero, thermal, mechanical, etc.).
