We are looking for a talented Electrical Installation Designer to join our UK team based at our Yeovil site in the South West of England.

As a Electrical Installation Designer, your main purpose is to …

Carry out design activities required to define the air-vehicle Electrical & Avionic Systems installation design including 2-D and 3-D design definitions as appropriate.

To carry out design activities required to define and integrate the air-vehicle wiring and harness design and installation, including harness routing definition, design and installation of avionic bays, instrument panels and electrical switchgear and protection panels.

To provide input and support to the manufacturing and procurement processes and systems related to EID.

Key Responsibility Areas

Responsible for assisting with the definition, design, development, integration and in-service engineering support for the system installation and/or wiring of the avionic, electrical and mission equipment for all company products/contracts. The primary areas of technical responsibility are as directed, to:

  • Assist in the capture of electrical installation requirements for any avionic, electrical or mission equipment.
  • Assist in the scheming and detailing of design solutions for the avionic, electrical and mission's system equipment.
  • Check electrical designs as directed, for content, quality and completeness.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and operations during trial installations and production builds.
  • Liaise with the solution suppliers to ensure the design can be manufactured and assess alternative methods to reduce cost and timescale.
  • Support design analysis and trade-off studies as directed by the task leader in the evaluation of alternative solutions. Use of aircraft inspection, computer tools, prototyping, scheming and analysis techniques to assess installation and performance aspects of the system.
  • Take cognisance of the integrated design office schedules and ensure outputs are completed to support these schedules.

The activities will potentially encompass all EID office projects, from minor system modifications to initial development of new systems.

The activities are heavily dependent on system definitions from system engineering and suppliers, requiring close co-operation with those areas involved in system procurement.

The activities require close co-operation with:

  • The structural and mechanical design offices, to ensure that the electrical needs and provisions are included in the structural design of the company products.
  • The manufacturing and operations staff to ensure that concurrent design/manufacture processes are utilised and that methods/tools development take into account all aspects of the design and build process.
  • The electrical and avionic system engineering teams to ensure requirements and definitions are correctly included in the electrical installation design.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

Degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Avionic, Electronic, Software or Electrical Engineering) or HNC/HND/BTEC and Apprenticeship.

Have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant airworthiness regulations.

A good understanding of the aircraft manufacturing process.

Specific in-depth knowledge and experience of electrical and avionic system installation, wiring design and supporting tools and processes such as:

  • A good knowledge of the wiring design tools - ECAD
  • A good knowledge of CATIA, VPM & ENOVIA.
  • Appreciation of SAP.
  • Appreciation of the CM (configuration management) process.
  • Wiring and harness specifications and design methods.
  • Electrical installation methods and techniques.

Background knowledge and experience in the design, development, integration and qualification of electrical and avionic systems including:

  • Electrical generation and power distribution.
  • Human Machine Interface - HMI.
  • Electrical and avionic system integration.
  • Electromagnetic Environment and Effects - E3.

Team working and interpersonal skills including:

  • Ability to follow well defined engineering processes.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional team environments.
  • Ability to make technical decisions.
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
