ECLSS Laboratory Support Technician

Responsibilities and Qualifications

* Support wet and gas laboratory operations, including but not limited to the following activities:

* Prepare liquid and gas samples for analysis via various analytical instruments under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and other ECLSS Scientists

* Maintain and optimize laboratory organization and general cleanliness

* Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of laboratory chemicals

* Maintain up-to-date laboratory supply inventories and facilitate resupply when necessary

* Exhibit a high level of professionalism and a strong work ethic, with the ability to take the initiative to independently fulfill general laboratory maintenance and upkeep functions when not occupied with specifically assigned tasks

* Post-secondary education in a scientific field is preferred

* At least one year previous hands-on experience working in a chemical/biological laboratory setting

* Knowledge of liquid and/or gas system plumbing techniques and materials

* Be comfortable working with caustic chemicals and/or samples of liquid human waste while exercising appropriate safety precautions

* Act as a team player with ability to receive constructive input

* Experience working with FTIR, GCMS, HPLC, IC and TOC instrumentation is a plus

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
