ECLSS Engineer - Temperature and Humidity Control

Responsibilities and Qualifications

* The Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) engineer will work with other engineers and technicians to design, develop, and test thermal control components and systems for future space habitats in a hands-on environment
* Provide accurate modeling of the thermal environment of spacecraft habitats, oversee the design and manufacture of hardware that controls the habitat cabin environment, conduct tests to verify performance, and develop the systems through flight qualification
* Oversee component and system assembly and testing
* Document development and testing activities
* Clearly communicate results and concepts to designers, technicians, engineers, and Program Management
* Work independently with little or no supervision
* B.S. or M.S. in a relevant engineering field. Other degrees may be considered in lieu of previous job experience
* A minimum of five years’ experience developing, analyzing, testing, and evaluating spacecraft thermal control system (TCS) components and systems
* Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, particularly thermodynamics
* Spacecraft TCS experience is preferred, but other vehicle experience may also be considered
* Extensive experience in both system design and analysis and in system prototype testing
* Ability to work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams
* Experience with design, development, or testing of spacecraft fluid systems, thermal systems, or ECLSS systems
* Extensive aerospace systems design and development experience preferably working with thermal control systems or temperature and humidity control systems
* Experience with NASA design standards and processes
* Previous experience working with CFD modeling tools, Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, data acquisition programs (OPTO or Labview), and CAD modeling tools
* The successful candidate must be a highly motivated self starter

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
