Would you like the opportunity to be part of and help shape the future support of world class vessels? We currently have a vacancy for an Electrical Combat Systems Design Engineer at our site in Portsmouth Dockyard.
As a Design Engineer you will be part of a team who primarily develop Alteration & Addition (A&A) Electrical Combat System guidance that include Design Solutions and Statements of Work; Provide technical expertise for queries raised by Ship-repair and other business areas; Carry out fault diagnostics providing solutions, when requested by BAE Systems Surface Ships waterfront support as well as Commercial Shipyards.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work in a varied position regarding all aspects of ships electrical systems across various platforms, working on a range of different projects.
As a Design Engineer (ECS) your main responsibilities will include:
Producing design solutions, statements of work relating to all equipment within the ECS discipline
Being the Lead engineer for ECS biased Design tasks
Liaising with other Design Services disciplines to ensure timely release of deliverables
Liaising with and advising MoD and Industry customers in the development of Statement of requirements
Undertaking ship surveys and feasibility studies for BAE Systems Maritime Services, MoD and equipment manufacturers
Attending meetings on behalf of BAE Systems Maritime Services when called upon
Engaging with MCTA as part of a Commissioning Test and Trials service, including presenting installation inspections, conducting/aiding in Naval Weapons Harbour Trials (NWHT)
Contributing expertise to the Product Safety of Design Services deliverables
As a Design Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
ONC/HNC in Electronic and Electrical Engineering or completion of a recognised Royal Navy Combat System Engineering Training programme
In depth knowledge of Electronic Systems theory
Competent in the use of AutoCAD (training will provided)
Familiarity with and / or knowledge of Combat Systems and / or Ship Weapon Systems
Familiarity with Ministry of Defence, Defence Standards (DEFSTANS)
