Description

CAD Designer 4

We are a company of innovators, game changers, and entrepreneurs. As a prime contractor, we provide a broad range of communication, electronic and sensor systems used on military and commercial platforms across the globe. We embrace innovative and progressive ideas to advance our products for military and commercial customers. Electronic Systems Segment (ESS) provides a broad range of aerospace systems, security and detection systems, and pilot training. We are searching for a CAD Designer 4 in our Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) division, located in Ashburn, Va.

L3 Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) is built on the proposition that a small team of the right people can do what others will not even attempt. We specialize in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced small Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience. We’ve earned a reputation for providing vital warfighter solutions at a faster pace than traditional DoD contractors, so if you like the idea of hands-on experience designing, building, testing and fielding new technology at a fast pace and supporting the vital missions of our warfighters, then L3 AS&T may be the company for you.

If you are passionate about 3D CAD modeling and drafting, L3 AS&T is looking for you. You will be assisting with the design and documentation process of very exciting products, and you will be able to see them come to life in our on-site manufacturing and assembly plant. We design highly complex aerospace and electronic systems, and are looking for candidates who are highly skilled in supporting complex mechanical design projects in a 3D and 2D CAD modeling environment. You will work directly with our engineering team to assist with creating detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings.

We are a fast-moving, forward-looking design team. We are looking for a person who is unafraid to “own” an assignment, and execute tasks independently. People who go the extra mile, and actively participate in improvement objectives, are recognized and rewarded. If this sounds like you, we would love to have you on our team!

You will demonstrate success by:

*

Assisting with detail design of 3D mechanical CAD models

*

Creating 2D drawings and other documentation to support technical data package (TDP) creation

*

Assisting with change management and new product release processes in a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) environment

*

Assisting with creation and management of Bills of Material (BOM).

*

Working with the CAD Design team on continuous improvement initiatives

*

Taking assignments from multiple sources, including the Mechanical Engineering Director and individual Product team leaders, and be able to prioritize and cross-communicate your tasking

Our Values are an integral part of who we are. We seek candidates who share our values:

*

Integrity

* Excellence

* Accountability

* Respect

Qualifications

*

Must be a U.S. Citizen

*

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance or better, including the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SSBI; current clearance highly desired

*

10+ years of experience working in an engineering design and development environment

*

10+ years and/or 10,000 hours of 3D CAD modeling and drafting

*

Experience using PTC Creo (Pro/E). Experience with Solidworks or other 3D CAD software may be considered.

*

3D CAD design skills and strong 2D drafting skills

*

Experience generating drawings that conform to ASME standard

*

Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, preferably PTC Windchill, is highly desired.

*

Understanding of release and change processes is desired.

*

A working knowledge of common mechanical fabrication techniques, such as milling, turning, sheet metal forming, additive manufacturing (e.g. 3D printing), and other general machine shop operations, is a strong benefit.

*

Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience designing and/or working with aircraft structures, electro-mechanical systems, molds, and tooling jigs.

*

Understanding of fabrication and assembly techniques. The ability to create step-by-step/sequential assembly drawings is required.

*

Written and verbal presentation skills to facilitate communications with team members
