General responsibilities of the position: The Business Relationship Manager is responsible for the overall relationship between IT and the Business Unit(s) he/she supports. The position calls for demonstrated leadership ability and effective communication with multiple internal groups and external suppliers. Good knowledge of our P&WC business processes, computing environment and applications is needed.
Specific responsibilities of position: The BRM is part of a team comprised of other BRMs, the CIO and other IT managers, as well as key business stakeholders. Key responsibilities include demand management (sequence, prioritize, evaluate, escalate), budget management, and project communication (status, issues, events). The BRM must work with the business to ensure the necessary business resources are available for projects and helps to develop and sustain a ‘power user’ network. Working with the IT technical resources the BRM helps introduce new technology and helps the business unit(s) develop training and change management plans. BRMs participate in vendor/software evaluation and selection.
Qualifications required: The BRM must have strong business process knowledge and demonstrate business acumen. Non technical skills include active listening, influencing, developing relationships, networking and negotiating. There are no direct reports to the BRM so the ability to work through the resources of other groups is an important skill. Maintaining an awareness of technology trends is required.
The candidate holds a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business with a minimum 7 year of experience, or a Masters degree and 5 years of relevant experience.
