APS-3: Heavy Equipment Mechanic MHE - Deployable - 1078140

This Emergency Essential (EE) position is in the KBRwyle Maintenance Department MHE maintenance shop for the APS-3 program, located on the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. As a condition of employment, the deployable heavy equipment mechanic must meet and maintain government specified requirements to be deployable.

KBRwyle executes a contract for the US Army to provide Maintenance and Logistics services for the Army’s Prepositioned Warstock set #3 (APS-3) at the Army Field Support Battalion - Charleston, located on the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. The Maintenance Department consists of 180-210 employees in nine maintenance shops across 12 facilities, and provides Field Level Maintenance on the full spectrum combat and tactical equipment assigned to the program.

To comply with the terms of the contract, KBRwyle maintains a team of employees who meet deployable standards (medical screenings, training, passport) who, on order, can travel to a port or staging area, assist in the discharge, configuration, and hand-off of APS-3 equipment anywhere in the world.

Description (Per SCA Directory of Occupations):

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools. This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. This position may require computer literacy.

General Responsibilities:

Heavy Equipment Mechanic works as an automotive mechanic in the MHE maintenance shop. This mechanic will perform field level automotive maintenance on all equipment assigned or work-loaded to the assigned shop – primarily material handling equipment to include military and commercial forklifts, cranes, bull dozers, tractors, earth movers, and mine sweepers. Provides own personal tools. Uses government furnished special tools and facilities to perform responsibilities.

Performs varied duties including:


Field level maintenance on US military automotive equipment. Includes Technical Inspection, diagnostics, parts identification and requisition, and repair in accordance with technical specifications and specified repair times.


A/C repair and service on a wide range of automotive and material handling equipment


Maintain maintenance records and documentation in accordance with government regulations and local policies


Properly use, store, accounting for, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste used and generated in the performance of duties. Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations and procedures for handling and disposal of refrigerant and related hazardous materials.


Movement of materiel and assets with forklifts and dollies


Comply with company and government specified safety policies and procedures


Upon notification from the government, deploys to support issuing or receipt of equipment

This position is a Deployable Position:


Must meet deployment qualifications and maintain deployable status


Upon notification from the government, deploys to support issuing or receipt of equipment


Must be capable to deploy to a contingency theater of operations as determined by the US Government within five days of notice


Must be capable of getting a minimum of a SECRET security clearance


Must meet government specified requirements to be deployable: including annual health screenings, training requirements, and passport



* Training: Certificate of training from vocational school or other recognized source with a major study in automotive maintenance, or other related field

* In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or ASE certifications may be considered

* Experience: 8 years’ experience in directly relevant work

* Ability to comply with all established environmental regulations, methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position

* Ability to interpret and apply technical instruction, schematics, and diagrams

* Possesses personal tools that meets the required tool list

* Possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License.

* U.S. Citizen.

* Must obtain and maintain local base access

* Must be able to obtain and maintain Common Access Card (CAC) requirements.

* Expertise on military MHE equipment is a plus

* EPA certification in Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Program to be compliant with section 609 of the Clean Air Act a plus
