RBC Bearings is a well known international manufacturer and marketer of highly engineered precision plain, roller and ball bearings. We have been providing bearing solutions to our customers since 1919. Over the past ten years, under the leadership of our current management team, RBC Bearings has significantly broadened our end markets, products, customer base and geographic reach. We currently have 25 facilities, of which 22 are manufacturing facilities in four countries.

JOB TITLE/LOCATION:
Applications/Design Engineer– Oxford, CT
DESCRIPTION:
The RBC Division is in search of an Application / Design Engineer to be located in our corporate office in Oxford, CT. The successful candidate will be responsible for both design and application of spherical plain bearings reporting to the SPB Product Engineering group leader.

Basic Function & Scope:

Providing engineering support to the customer and all areas of the company on existing product designs and to design new applications for bearings and related precision products.

Organizational Responsibility:

The applications engineer reports directly to the senior applications engineer. This individual will conduct liaison activities between the customer and RBC/RPP to determine application requirements, engineering specifications and other technical matters and will be responsible for product design and development.

General:

This guide does not purport to be an all-inclusive job description. It is intended to outline the basic responsibilities of the applications engineer. It is directed at aiding in the achievement of RBC’s goal of providing quality products to our customers. This effort will lead to growth and stability for RBC/RPP, as well as for the individual.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Communicate directly with customers in conjunction with sales to understand customer needs and identify opportunities for improved application performance.
* Provide ongoing technical assistance to the customer during the various product cycle phases; concept, design, development, launch and service life.
* Convert customer requirements into designs. Understand performance requirements, compare potential solutions and deliver technical proposals that meet customer needs, RBC financials and manufacturing requirements.
* Provide advanced technical knowledge and analytical support to the manufacturing operations.
* Perform all engineering analysis and testing required to validate designs.
* Participate in cross-functional teams related to product launches. Support APQP activities.
* Establish and develop strong working relationships with assigned customer engineering and RBC/RPP manufacturing engineering groups.
* Devleop and conduct competitive product analysis and technical training as required.
* Position requires 20% to 30% travel to visit customer’s locations and RBC/RPP manufacturing plants as necessary.
* Identify new manufacturing capabilities needed to expand product offering and position RBC/RPP to capture business in new customer applications.
* Developing and maintaining relationships with sales managers and local reps.
* Assist project managers and project engineers in the preparation of project change orders.

Qualifications:
* Minimum qualifications are based upon a combination of training, experience and education. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and two (2) years engineering experience with a good knowledge of the bearing industry preferred. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and machine capability for the metal working industry preferred.
* Experience in bidding/proposal preparation and the ability to read and understand bid/proposal specifications, from a technical perspective, as related to contractual terms and conditions. Experience with close tolerance parts and assemblies required.
* Must be proficient with the MS office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong mechanical design skills, including 3D modeling using Solid Works, is required.
* Must have personality traits that include integrity, tenacity, perseverance, empathy and a can-do, positive attitude. Must be willing to work independently and be a self-starter. Must possess solid communication skills (both written/verbal).
* Must be able to travel 20-30% of working time.
* Must be able to perform the essential physical functions, as established by RBC/RPP, with or without accommodation.
