The Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME)  - Structures is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the aircraft’s structure with machinist qualification.  AME - Structures are skilled in metal and composite repair, refinishing, painting, machining, welding, installation, modification and inspection of these materials.  Future structural technicians will work with completed assemblies and will be systems integrators.  

Key Performance Indicators / Duties & Responsibilities

·          Responsible for assembly, fit and install of aircraft skins, frames and structural parts

·          Inspect, evaluate, restore or repair defects using unique aircraft fastening hardware, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, composite materials, fiberglass, plastic, chemicals, adhesives, paints and textiles within the company structure shop, to a standard of airworthiness in accordance with the applicable company maintenance control manuals (MCM and MPM) and Transport Canada regulation

·          Weld base metals, alloys and casting materials, using oxyacetylene, electrical arc, inert gas and resistance welding techniques and equipment

·          Manufacture original aircraft equipment, components or replacement items from base metals using special cutting tools, engine lathe and milling machines

·          Conduct corrosion control inspections of ferrous and non-ferrous materials

·          Develop work methods, procedures, and standards, if necessary

·          Oversee work of apprentices if assigned to them

·          Document and report all work performed on a routine basis

·          Sign work sheets and work cards for work accomplished - completely and accurately May be required to perform aircraft handling tasks, including parking, towing, marshalling, starting, refuelling, cleaning and de-icing

·          Other duties as assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Division Manager

·          Report unsafe or unapproved work conditions and practices to department supervisor

·          Attend training courses and/or seminars as dictated by company needs, and become familiar with all aspects of the Company MPM

·          Ensure work environment is safe and clean

·          Promote company values, vision and mission

·          Prepare and maintain aircraft documentation and statistical data

 

Skills/Abilities

·          Candidates should have general knowledge of aircraft structural fabrication, including repairing, modifying, refurbishing, and fabricating structural and other components

·          Ability to understand and work from mechanical drawings as well as other written instructions and design specifications. Strong mathematical knowledge is required, and the ability to make accurate measurements and finish materials to a high level of quality and precision

·          Must be familiar with a variety of hand tools and assembly jigs, and sheet-metal equipment

·          Ability to understand and follow direction with minimal supervision

·          Ability to work as part of a team, where tasks may be shared or reallocated daily

·          Good mobility, manual dexterity and physical condition to work in areas within the aircraft where access may be limited

·          Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and written

·          Positive attitude and willingness to learn

·          Ability to trouble-shoot and problem-solve

·          Excellent planning, organization and coordination skills

·          Excellent judgement and strong attention to detail

 

Working Conditions

·          Regular periods during which physical effort is required, e.g., walking standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward

·          Exposure to factors such as temperature variations/extremes, fumes, moving machinery, humidity, and materials which can cause periods of discomfort

·          Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing

 

Qualifications

·          Transport Canada Certified AME-S License preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

·          Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

·          Diploma of Professional Studies, Aircraft Structure Assembly, or equivalent

·          Certified welder, an asset
